I'm setting the bar low on this one. What's the last year you thought 1/3..no 1/4 of the shows were actually good?? 2009. I thought 2011 sucked. So far AGT Howard makes even it seem like gold. Each year gets progressively worse.
I listened for a few months after Artie's harikari failure. At some point I knew he wouldn't be back and they had no intention of replacing him. When basically Robin filled in the gaps, I was done.
2007 and early 2008 still had a nice few big laughs. The show was entertaining for me anyway. After that with Artie's decline and then after his suicide attempt the show just went to total shit
I'm not the biggest Artie fan. But, when he left it's like Howard committed suicide too. What stepped in place (lame guests, AGT) doesn't measure up. Hell at this point I'd rather even hear another pornstar.
2006 was one of the greatest years in Howard Stern show history. Roasts: nuff said 2007 was also great 2008 still had it's moments (lots of Artie blow ups), but it was noticeably not as good 2009 Artie became a drag on the show and Howard's evolution was noticeably underway. This was the year of the Gay Pitch though, so that counts for something 2010 Started okay, but it became apparent that a third voice was needed. Frustrating once it became apparent Howard had no desire to fill it. 2011 3-day weeks, all around bad year. Evolution was televised, and it wasn't pretty. Black on Black: best show on the channels. Benjy press conferences highlight of the year 2012 The AGT infomercial. Show's best moment was the KOAB calling out Beth, fitting that Gary would try to ruin it. Shit show with an oversensitive, celebrity ass kissing, politically correct, limosine liberal at the helm who lost the ability to laugh at himself
2008 was the last year the show was actually still "entertaining" in a funny way. 2009 was the last year the show was still "interesting" in a trainwreck way only because of the continuing meltdown of Artie. 2010 onward = complete fucking garbage
Ahhhh Shit figures I didn't get sirius till sep 07 figures i missed the best part. Ohh the show went into a spiral about a month after artie was booted. Don't know why that cheap ole jew didn't get someone funny in their after Artie was tossed? Tooo much Robin.
after artie left it was game over. artie was getting on my nerves a little towards the end but at least it was compelling radio
The '06 shows are all "out there", ya know. I'd suggest you download them. It's like night and day to hear the first few months at Sirius and compare it to the last 2 years.
the show died without artie. I stayed for one year after artie left and only listened through headphones because the show was very lacking.
I've always considered 2001 to be the worst year of the terrestrial era. The show was inconsistent at best when Jackie left. some of the people in the rotating Jackie chair were just awful and didn't fit in with the show at all (Craig Gass, Ron Zimmerman). it picked up after 9/11 when Artie came on full time. he really was a perfect fit. I wasn't sure the show could recover from losing Jackie, thinking back Artie put an extra 10 years on the shows lifespan. Don't get me wrong there are a few people that could have filled the seat and done a fine job (Corolla comes to mind) but whether or not they would have left whatever they were doing to do morning radio 5 days a week is a different question.
