Hamptons is now supposedly a part of the greater NBC happy family yet again last night on Jimmy, he's still shoveling his tired old shtick whenever possible by bashing Jay Leno. He's using what are becoming ever-vague or obscure references like "hiding in the closet" (which realistically applies more to him) about how Jay allegedly stole the job from Letterman. Last I looked, Leno, whether you like him or not, is still the Late Night cash cow for NBC and those viewers keeping his advertisers happy are mostly fans from Middle America with middle American values. How impressed can these Leno fans be with this uncomfortable, peculiar-looking creature slamming their hero?? Likewise, how happy can NBC be seeing someone they've taken a chance on despite a career largely associated with smut, mean-spirited attacks, promiscuity, racial stereotyping and infidelity now trying to undermine one of their cash cows? Mean-spiritedness is unlikely to resonate too positively with AGT's demographics. Just doesn't make sense to let this new addition to the NBC "family" trash one of its respected long-standing senior members - especially after seeing the hard way the kind of chord it struckwith his viewers in the past when trying to cast Jay aside for a douchy GenX inside-joke telling Ginger. Howard had Mel slap a gag order on O&A from talking shit about him. Hell, there's much more at stake here when you're talking perceived icons and network advertising dollars. If I were one of the head honchos at NBC corporate and their entertainment division, (Jeff Zucker & Jennifer Salke??) already under fire for delivering the worst ratings, I would step in immediately to slap a muzzle on Wiggie to put a stop to any further Leno bashing. It just doesn't make sense to let him trash one of the best performing properties on a failing network.
