Was this funny back then? If so, is it still funny now? I never found it fun or funny.

I saw that live as a young lad. Back then us hillbillies in the Midwest had zero idea who the fuck Howard Stern was. That said, we found the skit to be retarded and horribly unfunny.

Look at the gut on him! He must have been hitting the almonds pretty hard back in the 90's to get so fat.

I was a huge fan of his on the radio, but I always thought Fartman was an embarassment.

It wasn't "funny" back then, but I found it mildly entertaining in that Fartman was a ridiculous stupid character, and was "ruining" MTV's self important night. In other words, it was something you didn't see on an awards show back then...the whole "ruin something while dressed in character" wasn't as mainstream as it is today.

While nobody ever claimed Howard was good looking, hid did have sort of a late 80s hair-metal/ 90s grunge rock look going.

Now he spends tons of money on plastic surgery, hairdressers, and stylists all to look like a douche.

I thought it was kind of in it's absurb context, in the same way one of the greatest grammy moments ever was odb. Also the mtv awards were actually taken somewhat seriously back in the early 90s and for alot of those groups, particularly metal, alternative, and hip hop, it was a far bigger deal than the grammy's

The great Dana Carvey can't seem to find work. The legendary Phil Hartman- dead. The talentless but "oh-so-shocking" Howard Stern- billionaire Hamptons and Palm Beach socialite.

    I hate this country.

edit: they appear at the end of the clip.

Never funny. But if you listened to Howard he'd go on for years about how that was comedy genius. Howard putting on his salesman's hat and doing what he does best - continuous selling and brainwashing (and the media) that what he does is groundbreaking and the best thing ever. I've always known he was full of shit and always thought he was unfunny. He does have a talent for interviewing when he's not getting sexual.

Even back then he could not stand to share the attention with others. The guys won an award and he couldn't even allow them to say their little speeches and thank you stuff. I never got the whole stupid idea of Fartman advertising his fake movie while it was Metallica's turn in the spotlight. Oh, and his ass makes me want to puke, as do the pecs on the costume. They look like chick breasts. How surprising from Ralph.

Personally, I never liked the fart humor on the show even when I thought the show was the greatest thing going. Fartman was never all that funny to me. But back in 1992, the MTV Fartman thing was pretty outrageous. Now it is tame and somewhat lame.

Cringe worthy. I think Howard was embarrassed himself about it.

maybe at one point but now he brings it up frequently and even mentioned how great his movie would have been
