Liberty is going for a 51% control of the shares. They are going to make wiggy cry.
So what? Doesn't change his contract, does it?
"Outen Zee!" they will tell him. Mark my words
Mel will be instantly out on his ass if Liberty takes control as will Greenstein and a bunch of the other long timers. It doesn't change Howard's contract but they could make being there harder on Howie, maybe to the point of him wanting to leave
Then wouldn't Mel just resign now (for personal reasons, retirement, etc.) rather than having it be more obvious he's being forced out later?
The CEO types all stay until they are forced out because they usually get a sweet buyout to leave. If I remember right, Mel's contract ends at the end of this year so timing will determine how that situation unfolds.
"Sirius shareholders should be relieved to see Liberty's demand for their shares given that corporate insiders, including CEO Mel Karmazin, have been selling big chunks of their shares in 2012".
we don't know what his current contract says about buyouts and cancellation
Malone hates everything about Howard. He only travels in couch. He cannot wait to get rid of Howard after his contract expires.
What he doesn't have control of is the employees that work for Sirius. Since the show is now part time, they could easily give additional duties ouside the Stern show to those people. There has already been discussion of Jason being used outside of Howard's channels. That could be extended to most of the back office people that don't work for Howard or OnDemand. Howard flipped out about having to pay for studio repairs out of his budget, if Scott is also working for Martha Stewart, Howard will be insane.
Liberty will put wiggy and Mel's balls in a vice. Liberty will make wiggy's life miserable to get him removed. With the eighty million saved they could actually put on a fantastic morning show and fill up the two channels with live shows at half the present cost. Liberty will have control within the next ten days. Ha ha wiggy we piss on you now.
Sounds good bro
I'm sure Buchwald will come up with a good lawsuit against Liberty.
Freaking Sirius should have done all that months and months ago. It might have actually saved the damned show! I would probably still be a listener...
2 days in a row, O&A have complained about the shitty, sleazy commercials they are getting from Sirius sales dept. -- right in the middle of the Steven Singer commercial, they mocked his pathetic $69.00 price joke -- they think it ruins their market perception
I think Malone wants those satellites more than anything else, fucking with Howard is just a bonus.
And I think Liberty will run it more like DirecTV in that they won't do as much in house programming, they'll just buy rights to other ready to broadcast feeds, like they do with NFL, PBS etc now.
How ambitious do you think they are? It would certainly be interesting to see a third TELEVISION satellite provider...
wiggy is gonna shit a brick!! is it now 3 companies or 2 or 1!!! wiggy will sue because he wrecked sirius making it easier for Liberty to acquire their 51% stake....
No doubt Liberty's got a battalion of in-house corporate, subsidiary and on retainer lawyers already studying Howard and Mel's contracts and stenographers making transcripts of each show, commercials and all to assess revenues. If there's a legitimate loophole, malfeasance or another Buchwald brainfart to be found, they will.
Malone doesn't strike me as a feely touchy individual especially after how an envious Stern lambasted him for having the guts to risk his own money as a legitimate white knight partner and as a result, financially reaped a windfall. I suspect this will end up in the courts with lawsuits flying all around but ultimately NOT in Howard's favor after he burned a bunch more of his money on legal sycophants and court fees.
