I can't believe this film cost a quarter of a billion to make. That means it has to make like 500 million just to break even. I saw the trailer and it looks weak.

I wonder with so much at stake if Johnny Depp will come on the show.

Disney rarely loses....it may not be a cash cow, but internationally it will make its money back.

It has Depp (albeit in a weird role) and the guy that has directed all of the Pirates of the Carribbean movies. It was Depp's project, and Disney couldn't say no to their golden goose.

If it's Disney, they will just promote the hell out of it at the parks and sell 50 million Chinese made 10cent masks for $20 each to all the dumb tourists, and before too long, they will make all their money back and then some!

I don't know if people in Europe know who the Lone Ranger is, most kids today don't know who he is. Also, there are so many other movies during the summer, this might get lost in the shuffle. Look at this past week and Purge, it cost 3 million dollars to make and make already close to 40 mil to be number 1 at the box office.

I heard World War Z cost about the same. I don't know how a movie can cost so much to make. I would think $50 million is a lot. At least it's supposed to be good.

That's a rare example....and the Head of Disney production was sent packing because of that one movie. Disney is a money making, greedy machine.

A western, with exactly two main characters and where the biggest special effect is (I think) a CGI train crash. Where the heck does all that money go?

For that WWZ, they spent around 200 million of the digital animation alone. For this Lone Ranger movie, 100 million was spent on the actors, and the rest on stupid shit like recreating a wild west city in the middle of some remote desert.

Truly, it was Artie at his best on that day. Johnny Depp hated the Kentucky remarks.

I hate him as a person (arrogant douche of course), but he was in some great films. What's Eating Gilbert Grape and Edward Scissorhands are classics.

I think The Lone Ranger will do alright. The ad I saw during the NBA Finals on Sunday didn't look too bad.

So far, this summer movie season has been mostly sequels. Though it's not a new idea, there hasn't been a Lone Ranger movie since 1981, and since it's got all the bells & whistles of being a Disney film, it'll get a massive ad campaign when it hits Blu-Ray and DVD (probably in November)
