Two thumbs up... John Cusack is good as the older version Wilson, but Paul Dano is the one who really shines as the younger version.

Reminded me just how innovative The Beach Boys were for their time... so many great hits.

I saw the Beach Boys (minus Brian Wilson) perform a few months ago. It was a great show.

Dennis Wilson befriended him for awhile and was gonna record one of Manson's songs until he got freaked out by him.
Doris Day's son originally lived in the house that Sharon Tate was in. Supposedly, he was the real target of the slaughter that night :ohnoes:

Honestly, the music in the movie is what makes it such a great film, IMO, although Dano's performance is excellent as well.

Terry Melcher, Doris Day's son, was a record producer who had worked with the Beach Boys I believe...he met Manson through Dennis Wilson. Manson always fancied himself the next great thing waiting to be discovered in the music industry.

Dennis and the Beach Boys actually DID record Manson's song Cease To Exist on their 20/20 album, slightly rewritten as Never Learn Not To Love...credited to Dennis, not Charlie. Probably woulda killed Dennis, given the chance.

While I enjoy a lot of the music and am always fascinated by the whole Pet Sounds debacle, uhhh, I don't think I've ever met anyone under 40 that actually enjoys a Beach Boys song. Popularity, yes, but never ending? You think millenials hear Drake followed by "Wouldn't It Be Nice" on their iTunes shuffle?

That's cheating, though. By that rationale Purple Rain is a work of cinematic art instead of a steaming, forgettable pile of shit with awesome tunes scattered about.

Axl & GnR also covered a Manson song (Look at Your Game, Girl) on the Spaghetti Incident. Charlie was kinda like the Jesus Twins, 20 years earlier. If you didn't like their music, they could turn violent! Haven't seen Love & Mercy yet, but if Manson's not in it, it's because he wasn't involved with Brian. It was Dennis who befriended him.

well that's because people under 20 expect rap artists to cover it, except beach boy music requires an understanding of harmony and 20 something musicians cannot play music.
