(CNN)Macy's is pulling Donald Trump brand merchandise from its stores after the Republican presidential candidate's recent controversial remarks created a public uproar.

The department store has come under intense pressure to cut ties with the real estate magnate and businessman after he referred to immigrants from Mexico and other countries "killers and rapists."

In a statement Wednesday morning, Macy's said the company "stands for diversity" and that it had no tolerance for discrimination.

"We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico. We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation," Macy's said. "In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy's values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy's since 2004."

    That's crazy.
How many people wake up in the morning and think " Man, I really want to dress like Donald Trump " ?

Does he think he's gonna win with only the KKK vote. He got notoriety, but it was more damaging in the long run, I hope all other companies dump him and people move out of his buildings.

He's an attention whore, he knows he has no chance to be President, i'm glad his publicity stunt backfired.

I'm not sure which I hate more, Donald Trump or companies that pretend to "stand for diversity".

I guess having Daniel Carver as your campaign manager isn't a good idea.

The problem, in this particular instance, is that he was speaking the truth. Many murderers and rapists are flooding into this country via our southern border. In fact, some of the most vile latino gangs in the country specifically recruit by name particularly violent shitbags from their home countries.

This is simply yet one more of a hundred media generated controversies that is being used to bend the will of the weak-minded.

It's an illustration of the overlap that exists between the media, politics and capitalism.

It doesn't matter if it's the Dixie Chicks or Trump - you say something that makes businesses jittery, you're gone if you might cost them a penny more than what you earn for them.

    Words have consequences, Mr. Dump.

With all the products Dump sticks his name to, I'm surprised he's never opened his own branded retail stores.
