It's based on a 60s tv show. Don't worry if you never saw it. It does take place in '61 or so. It introduces the two main characters in a pretty entertaining way. Lots of interesting 60's spy stuff. Lots of action and intrigue. They stuck to 60s accuracy pretty well except for a lot of American words that the English didn't use at the time. The three main actors were good. Hugh Grant also has a small part in it and plays it well. The story is OK, maybe good, but not spectacular. They definitely set things up for a series of movies. Not a lot of CGI and huge special effects if that's what you like.

I would give it maybe 3.5 out of 5. 4 if a pretty damn good movie and it doesn't reach that. If you enjoy the movie experience, go see it. If you don't mind waiting until it is on video, that's not a bad option.

The only reason I ever heard of the original was because of cross word puzzles

I kind of remember it. I know the two main guys but I don't remember if I've ever watched an episode or not. I'm sort of interested in finding some episodes now.

It must take you a long time to complete a crossword puzzle because of your lazy eye.

The only British shows I know from that era are Danger Man and The Prisoner both starring Patrick McGoohan and The Saint with Roger Moore.

I never heard of the Man From Uncle, but I guess it was spoofing all these spy shows.

It wasn't a funny show. It was serious.

They run episodes of the original series on MeTV on Sunday nights.

I always preferred it over Mission Impossible.

Probably wait for the movie to hit DVD.
