stern related B/C of PC run rampant

    Question for you:

What is the angle behind having women in the booth on football broadcasts?

Sidelines, understood. We all know why, with the exception of Holly Rowe.

But actually doing play by play, what's the angle?

There are thousands of former football players with brains who bring more experience and insight

The demographics of the fan base don't call for gender diversity,

    What's the financial angle here?

I'm asking for my wife of course, she gets really upset when I turn on the GA game and ESPN has a woman doing play by play

There's a demographic intrinsic value to featuring pretty talking heads in broadcast booths... not necessarily to their advertisers' target market segments but rather to the all important and influential "producers looking to wet their wicks" demo.

Hope that helps  (MBA in Mktg Mgt)

I'm a girl and I hate them in the booth and on the sidelines. Maybe I respect hearing from someone who has actually played the game? But most likely the women annoy me. A lot of women are annoying and those announcer chicks seem like the prissy kind I would've hated in college.

Masters in Marketing here... and used to work sports TV.

I'd complain more about women play-by-play types more, but the fact of the matter is this is a low point for the industry as far as anybody doing PxP. The only person out there who doesn't make me want to mute the TV is Al Michaels, but he's of a bygone era that included Brent Musberger, and before that, Keith Jackson, Jack Buck, and Howard Cosell. Today we have Joe Buck (who's fucking terrible), and Jim Nantz (a pandering, effeminate twit).

By comparison, the lady doing the 11th most-important college football game of the week on ESPN doesn't seem so awful.

Hmm yes come to think of it, my husband complains about a lot of the announcers lately too. You have a good point.

Yeah, that woman who does the ESPN early game play-by-play is decent, she's low key and professional. Far too often the women overdo the hype, as if they feel the need to show they are really, really into football.

So do the men, to be fair. The hack that does the Seahawks radio play-by-play sounds like he's having an orgasm crossed with a heartattack crossed with a stroke whenever Seattle gets a touchdown. But, for whatever reason, everyone up here loves him, even though he sounds like a Hyena on acid when he's broadcasting.

And I HATE HATE HATE the interviews when they grab the coach at halftime. It's all BS. What is the purpose of that? Something else for the chicks to do?? Let the Coach go talk to his team

I've noticed that the people who complain most about the broadcasters don't know shit about the sport they are watching.

Pittsburgh leads nation in female NFL fans

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have known for years their fan base included countless women -- that was evidenced by all the pink official team jerseys they sell and the hundreds who attend their female training camp each summer.

Yes, more than 300 women spend money each year to go through a simulated day of Steelers training camp, complete with blocking and running drills and a trip to the training table. The club also sponsors a Football Knowledge for Women classroom-type course.

Have you heard some of the men in the booth on lesser games? They're pathetic. There are not thousands of ex players that could do it.

How Joe Buck stays employed by Fox is amazing. The lady who does ESPN games is far better than him.

I think it is good to have a different voice once in awhile. Otherwise, it is s sausage party.

That said, there need to be more shots of the cheerleaders. They show half a second per game. I say at least five minutes of cheerleader shots will suffice.

ESPN owned by Disney is a very PC organization. Pandering to politicians and the PC crowd is political capital in the bank.
