Friends' Matt LeBlanc To Join BBC's 'Top Gear'

Former 'Friends' star Matt LeBlanc is joining the BBC's 'Top Gear'.

The casting is part of a revamp of the world popular car show.

Fans will recall Jeremy Clarkson left the program amid scandal after he punched a producer during an off-set altercation. His co-hosts followed him on his way out.

LeBlanc, who starred on 'Friends' as Joey Tribbiani, will be the first actor to co-host the show.

"As a car nut and a massive fan of Top Gear, I'm honored and excited to be a part of this iconic show's new chapter," he says. "What a thrill!"

LeBlanc's addition to the show was announced with Chris Evans sharing a photo of them together.

"Acting out our craziest car notions on screen is a dream job and I know we'll both be debating some epic road trip ideas," says Evans.

Love him! He's great in Showtime's "Episodes". Although my husband may never watch Top Gear again.

Clarkson is still the biggest dickhead on earth....

He's amazed how stupid Americans are for calling a liquid "gas", he's such a genius, he never heard that it's short for gasoline. Yet all the geniuses in the U.K. call gas "petrol" short for petroleum.

Petroleum (L. petroleum, from early 15c. "petroleum, rock oil" (mid-14c. in Anglo-French), from Medieval Latin petroleum, from Latin: petra: "rock" + oleum: "oil".) is a naturally occurring, yellow-to-black liquid found in geological formations beneath the Earth's surface, which is commonly refined into various types of fuels.

It consists of hydrocarbons of various molecular weights and other organic compounds. The name petroleum covers both naturally occurring unprocessed crude oil and petroleum products that are made up of refined crude oil. A fossil fuel, petroleum is formed when large quantities of dead organisms, usually zooplankton and algae, are buried underneath sedimentary rock and subjected to intense heat and pressure.

    At the 1:00 mark.

I found his comments to be charming. The magic of why that cast worked so well.

Might as well cancel the reboot before it even stops. Chris Evans can't take driving fast or racing. He puked when riding with the stig not too long ago. Also when Howard went to England, he got in an argument with Evans on his show and completely desroyed him verbally. Matt may be ok but Evans is a tool and the show will be terrible.

Start date: Where and when is it on?
The new show will be made exclusive to customers of Amazon Prime, an online streaming service similar to Netflix.

If you haven't got Amazon Prime, it'll cost £79 a year, and you can watch it on various devices and apps - a full explanation of which can be found here.

No official date for the show's launch has been made yet, but it will definitely arrive at some point in 2016, probably in the autumn.

How many episodes will there be?
The trio have signed up to three series of 12 episodes, each of roughly 60 minutes in length.

However, each series will have a weekly release, rather than all 12 instalments being uploaded at once.

Will it keep the same format?
The show will be produced by ex-Top Gear executive and friend of Clarkson Andy Wilman, so the general style is expected to remain the same as Top Gear of old.

However, The Stig will not be making a comeback, and it has yet to be confirmed whether long-running features such as 'Star in a Reasonably Priced Car' will be brought back or whether they'll stay on the BBC's Top Gear. They will also be looking for a site away from the Dunsfold Aerodrome.

Top Gear Amazon Prime name: Is it really called Gear Knobs?
We don't know! The boys have yet to actually reveal what their new project is titled, but it could simply be Clarkson, Hammond and May, like their live show.

However, the trademark name 'Gear Knobs' has been registered by Clarkson's law firm Olswang via a company called NewinCCO 1361. Olswang has also trademarked 'Speedbird', a name which might well feature on the show.

Other guesses from the Digital Spy office have included: Gear Change, Sixth Gear, New Gear, Cruise Control, Still... Could Be Worse and Cars and That.

Amazon Prime budget: How expensive will it be?
The team have been given a whopping budget of £160 million from Amazon. It means they will have around £4.5m to spend per episode.

This makes it Amazon's biggest investment in original content to date, and is easily one of the most expensive UK shows ever made.

    When do they begin filming?
Jeremy Clarkson revealed in September that he, Hammond and producer Andy Wilman will begin shooting the series in early October, so they started very early.

He added: "To be clear, May is busy with other stuff but Hammond, Wilman and I are extremely busy putting our new show together. Much is already sorted."

The trio will have free rein to do what they want
Producer Wilman has said that Amazon Prime will allow Clarkson, Hammond and May to go rogue and not be held back in the way they may have been at the BBC.

"We're all really excited. No-one telling us what we can and can't do, just us hopefully producing great programmes," he said.

Clarkson also wrote in his column for The Sun: "To make what will be a seriously well-funded, British-based show with no commercial breaks and, better still, no editorial pressure from on high.

"Amazon has been delightfully clear on that. 'Just make the show you wanna make, guys.' Music to my ears."

    They never considered ITV
Wilman also confirmed that while a clause in their contract ruled out a move to BBC rivals ITV, it was never really on the table.

"So the ITV thing was never really going to happen, but there has been lots of interest," he said. "We've been in talks for quite a few weeks now with different people, but in the end it all happened very quickly."

Netflix and BT weren't ever interested apparently
BT Sport and TV managing director Delia Bushell told The Guardian: "To be honest I didn't consider it. It just wasn't right for us. It's a fantastic franchise, but it made more sense for a global player like Netflix because Top Gear has huge US revenues as well."

However, Netflix thought the show was far too expensive. "We have past episodes of Top Gear, so we have a pretty good gauge of what audiences like," Netflix's Chief Product Officer Neil Hunt told Digital Spy.

"Our buying decisions tend to be somewhat data-driven. We have a lot of data to get the deals we want, so there we go. Clearly it wasn't worth the money to make the deal... I think they sold themselves for way more money [than they're worth]."

I'll give the show a shot but don't hold out much hope. More interested in the old cast's Amazon show.
