    Ugh.

Colin Farrell & Vince Vaughn Cast As Leads In 'True Detective' Season 2

Just in from HBO: Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell have been cast as the leads in "True Detective" for Season 2. The HBO press release made no mention of the show's female lead, but did allow that "additional casting will be announced as it is confirmed."

The official announcement from HBO ends months of speculation about who would replace Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson on the show for its second season. Back in July, Deadline.com reported that Farrell was in talks for one of the main roles; in August, various trade reports attached Vaughn to the project as well.

HBO had remained tight-lipped on the stars' involvement, but Farrell was not as quiet. In a widely circulated interview with The Sunday World published on Sept. 20,Farrell said he was starring on "True Detective" for its second season.

"I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot," he said. "I know very little about it, but we're shooting in the environs of Los Angeles which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids."

According to the HBO press release, this run of "True Detective" will focus on three police officers and a "career criminal" all of whom "must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder." Farrell will reportedly play a character named Ray Velcoro, "a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn." Vaughn is apparently the career criminal, Frank Semyon, who is in "danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner."

Justin Lin, of "Fast and Furious" franchise fame, will direct the first two episodes. Series creator Nic Pizzolatto returns as writer.

As for the show's female lead, actresses such as Jessica Chastain, Elisabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams were once rumored for the role. According to TheWrap, Rosario Dawson, Brit Marling, Malin Akerman, Oona Chaplin, Kelly Reilly, Jamie Alexander and Jessica Biel are also in contention for the part.

Well that settles it, not watching this season. Very disappointing. Vince Vaughn is a horrible actor, cancer to any film.

Maybe this season won't be a letdown like the first season was. A bunch of buildup and red herrings and a shit ending.

I was disappointed with season 1 also. I'll give season 2 a chance just because of HBO's track record.

Given this new info, I don't think it will be the major letdown season 1 was. Simply because it will suck from the beginning.

Their only hope is to cast Daniel Day Lewis as the 3rd detective. His superior acting is the only thing that might make up for these two assholes. It will never happen but a boy can dream.

I don't get the Colin Farell hate. I think he's a pretty good actor who can do a lot of different genres. He was one of the only good things about the remake of Fright Night. I also like the casting of Vince Vaughn because it seems so out there.

I agree, the first few episodes seemed to be building up to some type of Roman Polanski illuminati shit. Instead we got fat high pitch mike in a cave or some shit.

I'll withhold judgment because it seems that they wanted these guys. Maybe the roles were written with them in mind. HBO is one of the few places I'll give the benefit of the doubt before panning.

It's too bad you posted a pic of this movie because Jurassic Park: The Lost World was a huge steaming pile of Tryannosaurus shit. The best part was Jeff Goldblum's straight out of darkest Africa daughter.
