Big news in Vegas .... free parking was always something that set us apart! Now that's going by the wayside, too .... :depressed:

    This is great:
"The parking process is our customers' first and last touch-point with us," MGM COO Corey Sanders said in statement. "Our guests expect and deserve an enhancement to this aspect of our resort experience. We've taken into account our customer feedback and carefully planned these improvements to address some of their most common concerns – challenging navigation and difficulty finding available spaces. We acknowledge that this aspect of our resort experience can be improved, and we're taking an aggressive approach."

They better get it on the way in, not the way out.

Much ado about nothing.. i'm sure it will be free if you really gamble.. This is just for the rubes from Missouri who show up for a week, and drop $60 at the slots.

Met a guy once who owned a number of parking garages in Columbus, Oh. The dude was rich. Around here, it's pretty cheap to park in a garage until there's a special event, then prices jump 5-10x. I bet they can make some serious dough charging for parking on the Vegas strip.

    Nothing is free anymore.

Nevada casinos hit by massive losses

It turns out that in Vegas, the house doesn't always win.
Nevada's casino industry lost $662 million last year, and has been in the red consistently for six years. Things hit bottom in 2009 when the industry posted a staggering loss of $6.8 billion.

It's not that casinos don't bring in plenty of cash. Nevada's 271 casinos collected a hefty $24.6 billion in fiscal year 2015 (which ended June 30,) according to the state's Gaming Control Board. That's up from $21 billion in revenue for 2010.

The problem: Visitors are spending plenty on restaurants, booze and glitzy shows featuring Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and magician Criss Angel. But spending on actual gambling is way down, according to Mike Lawton, senior research analyst for the Gaming Control Board. And if people aren't gambling as much, that means they're not losing as much.

"The Strip is at an all-time high in revenue," he said, driven by hotel rooms, the second biggest spending category behind gambling, as well as retail and entertainment. "But gaming is lagging. That's why we're losing money."

It's a trend that began with the Great Recession in 2008.

"More people are coming to Vegas, but they're spending differently," said Lawton."Basically, gaming (revenue) hasn't quite caught up and non-gaming is leading."

The good news is that the industry's losses have been narrowing every year, and Lawton is optimistic that the Nevada casino industry will start making money again this year. He said that Vegas expect to have 42 million visit in 2016, which would be a record.

Not surprised. Those "resort fees" are utter horseshit to only make the room rate appear cheaper. So it's only natural that they charge for parking now. It is amazing how in five short years, Vegas went from being affordable to ridiculously expensive but with no enhanced offerings.

I've always gotten a kick out of the change in tone of the billboards to and from Vegas. The way there, it's all champagne wishes and caviar dreams, the way back, it's $1.99 this and that, bail bonds and lawyers.

I imagine the only people really effected are locals and Californians.

Quite honestly, most of us holiday drunks should have our licenses taken away at the airport and returned after we pass a field sobriety test and cocaine screening.

Fuck Las Vegas. I knew charging for parking would become a thing eventually. When I was there in 2010, we saw the monorail. I was surprised it was so expensive. For some reason I thought the casinos along that route would foot much of the bill. There were four of us. It was cheaper to rent a car and the car took us right where we wanted to go, when we wanted to go there. Eating used to be cheap. That started to change in the 90's when the focus became on family entertainment. That town used to be strictly for adults. Those were the good old days. Hookers, strippers, drinks, and gambling. Mirage, Treasure Island, Excaliber, and MGM turned it into something lame.
