The news first hit the real-estate section of Crain's: A glamorous club scene is exploding in Sheepshead Bay. Never mind the neighborhood's stodgy seafood eateries and blue-collar boat clubs; locals are bragging that their beloved Emmons Avenue now offers South Beach-style night life right on the water, with visiting celebrities (Snoop Dogg!), swanky lounges and private yacht parties. The Observer quickly commented with its own, slightly snottier piece, concluding, perhaps sarcastically: "Sheepshead Bay is where it's at."

Russians, nightclubs, Sheepshead Bay, horseshoe crabs?

    HOME!

All the really old places are gone or just shells of their former glories. I've been going to Brighton Beach for the Russian clubs (its really culture shock to take a noob to them), but Sheepshead Bay will always be home.

Never went to Lundy's in it's heyday. Went to the re-opening and it was just overpriced and not all that great.

yeah the re-openings were really lame attempts to capitalize on its name.

when i was a kid my family went all the time (we lived off Ave Y so it was 5 min in the car). was like going to a formal dinner at Yankee Stadium: Dinner for 2000, white linens and silverware. Food was always roaring hot when it was supposed to be and ice cold when the oysters came out. Hundreds of waiters and busboys all running around like the crowd at DisneyWorld and the noise like the inside of the Magic Mountain ride. monster portions of everything for 4 $35 plus tip.

nope. the russians run everything now. they came in 20 years ago with gold and bought up everything. Brighton Beach, under the El, used to be all jewish and italian. now its all russian. all the window signs are russian, but the stores all look the same. Sat night in June wandering on the sidewalk waiting for people to show, and a black van of cops runs right up on the corner and arrests two guys for drugs. the locals tell me it happens every weekend.

it's just like when i was a kid. it's heaven!

Brooklyn is the vast unknown to many people from outside. I bet they think the arena, Randazzo's, and Peter Luger's are all on the same block.

Never used to take me more than an hour to drive from end to end late at night.

Now that Coney is going luxury condo, maybe they are all kinda connected too?
