Bernie supporters planning a ‘fart-in’ at DNC By Natalie Musumeci July 13, 2016 | 12:35pm Bernie Sanders supporters are planning on making a stink — literally — at the Democratic National Convention later this month. The Vermont socialist’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton is not going to deter Bernie supporters from holding the “fart-in” at the upcoming convention in Philadelphia. To carry out the protest, Sanders’ convention delegates are preparing to consume as many beans as they can before entering the convention hall in order send a strong-smelling message to the former secretary of state and the party, according to US News and World Report. ‘The fart-in is to raise attention about things that really stink in our society.’ Protest organizer Cheri Honkala, national coordinator for the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign, said the group has been stocking up on boxes of dry beans and canned beans in preparation for the smelly protest. Honkala said “those beans will probably quadruple” with Sanders’ Tuesday endorsement of Clinton. She said many varieties of beans have already been delivered to the organization’s office in Philadelphia from as far away as Texas. “It shows the level of absolute disgust that we’re at — we think we’re going to remember 2016 as the year we begin to bury the two corporate political parties,” Honkala said. Dr. Walter Tsou, of the Philadelphia branch of Physicians for Social Responsibility, said the stinky event is for a worthy cause. “The fart-in is to raise attention about things that really stink in our society,” he said.
