The Bugatti Veyron, even with some miles on the clock, normally retails for upwards of a million dollars. However, one example that went up for auction in Switzerland has sold for 254,000 Swiss francs (approximately $277,344).

It’s a 2008 example with 31,924 kilometers (19,836 miles) on the clock, but its age and mileage (which is relatively high for a supercar) aren’t the reasons for this ‘deal of a century’. No, this particular Veyron was involved in a single-vehicle accident on an Austrian highway back in April, and it was put up for sale by insurance firm Axa.

The car, which features a two-tone exterior, is badly damaged. According to the seller, there is damage on the front, rear, both doors, side sills and the underbody. The suspension is also damaged and the seller says there is engine and transmissionrisk. Being one of the original Veyrons, the engine’s output is pegged at 987 horsepower.

The estimate for the repairs is a figure between $800,000 and $855,000, which makes you wonder who is actually bidding on the car.

It's not that bad. I saw some asshole trying to sell a totaled, most of the front end pushed in, older car on Craigslist.

No idea but maybe they can do it for 1/2 the price themselves or it is worth it for parts.

My guess you can part it out for more than the auction price

I would think the smart move would be for a Bugatti dealer to buy it and repair it. Parts at half cost and low labor rates.

There are people who would rather burn money than see it serve any purpose but their own self-aggrandizement. I watched a documentary about a guy who built a multimillion dollar cabin in a location so remote it only gets used a couple weeks a year. They have to build a road to get to the site. He reveled in telling the camera every costly item that went into it. "This mantle was carved from a block of stone for $250,000!." "These trees are some of the oldest on the planet, and we chopped them down for this column! Just look at it!"

I have driven and owned some nice cars but these are complete bullshit.

Id guess the parts alone would get the $277K back for this guy.

I'd put money on it that it's going to be broken up and sold as parts. It'll be worth far more than what was paid for it that way. It wouldn't make sense to repair.

Someone will make a couple hundred grand off this car that way.

It looks like something might have happened to the tail lights, too.

This is the car that was purposefully driven into an accident for the insurance money.

I'd like to put that drivetrain into a '70 Ford Torino.
