OK, it's not my fault you're a lawyer...so don't blame me! I'm finally going to court this week for a bullshit red-light ticket here in Hillsborough County. I know I'm facing long odds, but I said, "Fuck it! Let's roll the dice, Taint!" I always call myself Taint (not really, but it'll give Dave something to perseverate on for the next 2 months.) I'm not 100% on the red light laws in Florida, but I did read where in order to put up the cams, the County needs to post signs making drivers aware of the upcoming red-light camera. This is the sign that "notifies" drivers of the camera that nailed me...I said notifies, but the fucking sign is completely obstructed behind another sign (half the size and @ 9 feet back), and at the posted speed limit of 45 mph, the sign is in view for less than a second; much less. IMHO, this is a pretty obvious attempt to skirt the law regarding the posting of the signs, and the charge should be summarily dismissed, right? Also, I've driven decades without ever getting a ticket, and the reason I went through this one (entering the intersection at the same time the yellow changed) was that there was an emergency siren, and I was scanning all around for the vehicle (as I'm supposed to) and decided jamming the brakes would have been unsafe in case of a vehicle behind me. Am I fucked? What's the best approach? I'm planning on being nice, and unassuming, and working in all the facts (with pictures) I stated as matter-of-factly as possible, without animosity. Or you can just tell me to fuck-off and get a local lawyer (which I'm not going to do). I hate to lose an argument, and should have gone to law school myself...biggest regret. What do you guys think? Anyone else have suggestions on how to weasel out of a red-light ticket?
