I should probably know Cespedes (was he the dude from A's that won the Derby?) but damn is he good enough to warrant both Lester and Gomes? I honestly thought my damn O's were gonna go after Lester but of course they didnt, why have a top-of-the-line ace anyways? Ugh
Today is the day that I get to watch my Phils, led by the worst GM in baseball, Rube Amaro, do absolutely noting to improve this team. Then as I watch teams like Boston make moves, I'll get to hear the Phils apolgists tell me how none of the Phillies players had any value, because, you know, Cole Hamels couldn't get you three top players. Fucking Rube.
He could, until the A's show him Sausilito, and the rest of that great area. Oakland is a dump, but the area is great... Lester won't be living in the ghetto... I thought the O's were gonna get him... I can only imagine Showalter bitching this morning about small markets.. etc.
Yeah what the fuck happened to the Phils, if it's any consolation, I am sure they will do more than the Yankees.
It's good they got gomes too. because Cepedes is worth more than Lester. Still, the A's are in it to win it.
What's really amazing is just a few years ago, the Phillies became the most feared team in Baseball when they were stacked with all those allstar pitchers. Experts were already handing them the WS win before the season even started, that sure never worked out the way everyone imagined!
I just hope my Dodgers and Angels can fill their holes and finally win another WS, it's been about 12 years since the Angels last won, and more then 25 years since the Dodgers won.
Amaro was handed a World Champion team and he has competely fucked it with big, long-term contracts that are hard to unload. The Phils got old, and they got old in a hurry! And Rube sat there and continued to not see the writing on the wall, and he thought the Phils were contenders if they just got healthy or hot. He's a worse GM than Ed Wade was, and that's saying something!
Big Mistake? You have seen how many seasons come down to a one game playoff or wildcard game right? How would you feel if youre an A's fan and you have a one game win or go home series and Lester is on the mound for you?
Maybe the Yankees can make a trade for CoCo Crisp, I hear he needs neck surgery and meets their age requirements for known entities.
I think Cepedes saves as many runs, with his fielding/arm, as a still-yet to be the old Lester and more importantly he creates runs. I think they only had a year left on this contract. The A's really have to make their run this year or its another long wait, same with the Orioles.
