Just finished watching Montage of Heck. I really liked it. There are some parts that are kind of hard to watch (Kurt and Courtneys relationship was disturbingly toxic), but all in all I thought it was pretty informative, and loved all the candid videos.
I watched it earlier today. I honestly thought the home movies of Kurt and Courtney were gonna be a lot of them being drugged up together, but that's not what I saw. I mean they might have been high for every scene, but the only stand out was when he was nodding off holding the baby for the haircut. I was taken aback by how sweet they were together. Courtney didn't come across as domineering, which is the general public consensus. I believe they genuinely loved each other and shared a connection apart from the drugs. Yes, she's batshit and kookie, but so was he. People were just too enamored with the art he created to see that.
Liked that there was a one sentence afterthought about his death; a topic done to death. The documentary was about his life
i thought Courtney was domineering in the General sense that she doesn't shut up, but not as bad as I thought she would be. They were very sweet together, but they still were Sid and Nancy incarnate. That haircut scene was tough to see, though. I read Kurts "journals" release, and it didn't have a lot of what they showed in he doc...he seemed a bit unsavable, right?
Been hearing a lot about this film. I'll be curious to see if the movie sticks with you a bit, as I have heard others say it has.
I liked the excerpts that were played from the actual "Montage of Heck" cassette tape 4 track recordings, and the animation style of story telling. P.S. Courtney is a very authentically cool person in private.
My son has squeezed me into his schedule so we can watch it together tomorrow. I am looking forward to it.
