Does Artie really still think he pronounces this correctly? He doesn't. It's a lazy slang corruption of the word by 2nd generation and 3rd generation Italian-American immigrants, as far as I know.

The real Italian word sounds pretty much as it's spelled, and is kind of beautiful.

I thought of this as he bashed the wonder twins, who were pretty much pronouncing it correctly (more or less).

What happens when poseurs like him meet real Italians?

    (It's kind of funny though.)

Maybe it's like chocolate and garlic? Each are great by themselves, one is a better supporting player than a star attraction, and they sure don't go well together...

Excellent response; thank you, Anyonenow. And that's the first 48 seconds of Sopranos I've ever seen (oh except for those clips of the final scene).

    :hat:

I worked in a very upscale Italian Restaurant on Long Island(while in school in the late 80's early 90's).
Many/Most of the people I worked with were Born in Different parts of Italy(including the owner).
We would ALL laugh at the Wannabee Guido's when they would come in and try to impress the"Guurls" they were with.
Fortunately, the place was pretty pricey so not much RiffRaff would dine there(exclusive of Howard Stern).

Cool. Have you previously shared your Stern encounter(s)?

And I assume you've seen Big Night? I still haven't, but there's a famous scene or two reminiscent of this same idea.

You're welcome! I sort of envy you; I've never joined NetFlix and it would probably be a pain for me to legally rent the thing.

It's a very "foodie" movie from what I understand. Enjoy.

Don't really watch it. But had a few movies wanted to see this month so signed up.

If you have a gmail account abcdefg@gmail.com AND abc.defg@gmail.com will be delivered to the same addy but are considered DIFFERENT to just about every website on the net.
Just change your email for a new "trial"

Hmm, not a bad idea, thanks! People are doing the same with the Sirius trial I understand. (I also have personal domains I can use in a similar way.)

Still, I tend to stick with things, and once I get it up on the game console it might be hard to give it up, even with the limited selection. (I've also not been a huge fan of Netflix just watching it disintegrate over the last year or two.) I think there's still one Blockbuster left near me so that might be another way to get hold of the movie, not to mention simply downloading it....

Oh wait, I think that BB closed too. Good riddance, really.

Just heard the twins reading Batali's menu. Artie keeps instructing them to specifically mispronounce mozzarella (now he's telling them there's a "D" sound in it!)

Apparently for Art it's not even "mootzarell", it's "mootzadell" !

At the same time he and Ricky were going nuts about Gia DiLaurentis, completely oblivious to the fact that her proper pronunciations are completely different from theirs...

At least he admits it's "Jersey slang"...

Yeah, it's just bullshit Jersey slang--it means nothing in the real world. Run into any Italian from the old country and ask them about "bragiole", "zubadupeche", "bastachote" or the aforementioned "muttzarelle" and they'll look at you like you're retarded. And I'm fully aware these are not spelled correctly, they're spelled phonetically.

I have got to give the Tubby one some credit.
"Fresh Moottsarel and Proshoot" on crunchy portuguese(or italian) bread is absolutely WONDERFUL!!

I've had prosciutto regularly since I was able to eat solid food.
Never had the inkling to try it with Fresh Mozzarella.

    My lunch today! :lunch:

Is pit zaria only a NY/NJ word?

In California I'll order a large pie with extra sausage and the dopey high school girl taking my order is clueless.
