Experimental mice have been telling us this for years, but pot-smoking humans didn't want to believe it could happen to them: Compared with a person who never smoked marijuana, someone who uses marijuana regularly has, on average, less gray matter in his orbital frontal cortex, a region that is a key node in the brain's reward, motivation, decision-making and addictive behaviors network.

More ambiguously, in regular pot smokers, that region is better connected than it is in non-users: the flow of signal traffic is speedier to other parts of that motivation and decision-making network, including across the superhighway of "white matter" that connects the brain's hemispheres.

The researchers who conducted the study speculate that the orbital frontal cortex's greater level of "connectedness"--which is especially pronounced in people who started smoking pot early in life--may be the brain's way of compensating for the region's under-performing gray matter. Whether these "complex neuroadaptive processes" reverse themselves when marijuana use stops is an important unanswered question, they added.

The new findings, reported Monday in the journal PNAS, confirm findings about chronic marijuana use from rodents. But scientific evidence in humans has been more mixed.

IMO pot is okay on occasion, but I know when I smoked regularly back in the day, I couldn't sleep well, I had panic attacks, it made me generally depressed and completely anti-social.

Maybe it affects people differently but that is my experience. Plus everyone I know who smokes regularly is less successful in life.

in 20 years, people will laugh at all the bullshit said about the evils of pot.

until then, they will say and do anything to stop it's legalization. match up alcohol vs pot and let's do this. :leaf:

i'll say and do anything to stop the arrest of thousands of americans every year. including telling the truth.

Pot is the only thing that helps me sleep when the insomnia is bad. Don't do it often, but I never sleep cooked on marijuana.

I smoked pot daily for almost a year, and am currently 3 weeks sober.

The cloud has been lifted from my mind, and I'm feeling so much better now. I'm sleeping better, I'm thinking better, my writing and speech has improved, I'm getting my motivation back, and most importantly, I'm feeling more like "myself" again.

Don't get me wrong, I love weed, and I love the high, but I don't know anyone who smokes who can honestly say they don't think it has had some sort of negative impact on their life.

I'm going to start smoking again after my exam period is over, but not daily. Probably just the weekends or so.

I can only speak for myself but motivation was never a problem for me when I used to smoke more. sitting on the couch eating doritos was the last thing I wanted to do.......going for a hike or playing guitar or doing just about anything outside was far more enticing.

it's real simple. fuck ups are going to be fuck ups with or without pot.

like garypage2, it's just easier to say that they are a fuck up because they smoked some shit weed a few times a week instead of admiting that no matter where they are or what they do, - fuck up -will be part of what people call them.

successful people do quite well toking a little pot.

anything done to excess is bad for you.
other than that, let's party! :leaf:
