    Anyone else dig the Monkees?
I know studio musicians did the heavy lifting, but they made a big impression on me when I was a kid and really influenced how I approached music.
Check out this video- hammy-ness aside, you can see where Axl Rose stole his one dance move by watching Davy.
    And-
How can you not love a song that starts out with the line:
"How old you say your sister was?"

Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork were real musicians. Michael Nesmith wrote the song A Different Drum for Linda Ronstadt and the Stone Poneys.

I think they all sort of evolved into musicians, all with different levels of initial skills..
Davy could certainly sing and had good pitch, so that would qualify him. Mickey, well he could sing on key too.
Of course, we've always joked that drummers aren't musicians and vocalists aren't either.

they tried at least and had a couple of successful tours where they did play as a group. looks like they drew a good crowd here if they sold behind the stage seats. the old coliseum held 12500 for concerts

Had the sheets, t-shirts, etc. Actually saw them in the '80s at Giants Stadium (minus Mike N.) and loved it! They were with Paul Revere & the Raiders, the Grass Roots and ... can't remember the others.

I think it was 1968 where they outsold the Beatles. I remember them using the tune "Goin' Down" on Breaking Bad.
