Most people are trying to avoid the six largest banks that engaged in casino-style financial practices (credit default swaps, derivatives trading, etc…) and that are largely to blame for the financial crisis  Citi, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley.

Although I won't be participating in this event, due to my powers of clairvoyance (I switched to a credit union over 2 years ago), I support this movement.

Anyone else think it's an awesome idea and want to do it?
I know it can be a pain in the ass to switch banks, but I think it's worth it if you give a shit about our economy.

The premise sounds good, but we've already been shown the government will not let those banks fail. So that isn't really going to hurt them.

If anything, it will probably just bring a halt to any new hiring they might be doing in the future. Which is what this economy really needs, more jobs.

The only real way to force them to change is to get Congress to regulate them more. How do you do that?

By taking it to Congress and the Senate. Write your local representatives until your hand falls off, then use the other one. Take the protests to their offices and even Capitol Hill. If that doesn't work, vote out the incumbents in mass. Until people start doing that, it'll be business as usual.

I've never seen her before in my life. I wasn't even aware it was a female. I believe in equality and I treat men and women the same.

It was a fucking blast. But it sucked when she left. :sadbye2:

    Nice reminder Wing

I've got ever dollar I can out

I still have my big bank account that was a result of a criminal takeover

They keep trying to change the rules on my account to have me pay fees and I keep beating them at their own game

Last change was either high minimum balance or monthly direct deposit for no fees

So I drained the account. Transfer money in each month and simultaneously write a check back out for the same amount just to say FU to them

Before the criminal takeover I ordered 1000 free checks and get all services from them for free (online checking, eft, atm, debit card, bank check, etc etc) with this account so right now its worth it to keep it.

And they can only loan $0.01 out of my account each month because that's all that is ever in it :hhh:

    Eff the big banks :woot:

Thanks for having my back, though.
you have the best insults
the bigger the bank, the higher the fees, Matty
True, it won't do much to the institutions themselves, but I'm talking about local economy more than anything.
When you keep your money in a local financial institution, that money in turn is reinvested in local businesses, which is important for building a stable economy and encouraging local growth.
As the video states, local institutions always have money to lend, where some of the bigger banks have halted loaning majorly.
Put your money in the big Wall Street banks and they will use your deposits to make risky investments, gambling at the expense of the economy as a whole.

Making your voice be heard in that way can't hurt, but you are right, we should write our congressman.
And people ARE protesting. You know, the whole "Occupy so and so city" and all? Several people have been detained WITHIN the bank while attempting to close their account or remove money. The reason the bank officials gave? They were being disruptive. :rolleye:
