I was listening to today's O&A and Jimmy asked Jeff Bridges why American movies must have happy endings. Immediately I tried to think of examples where that's not the case, but it was harder than I thought. Other than horror movies, I could only think of movies like Chinatown, Se7en, No Country For Old Men, Donnie Darko and a few others. I know there are more, but I'm drawing a huge blank. What movies with a bleak or nihilistic ending do you appreciate and/or like? Horror movies and foreign films are welcomed. I'm now generally curious if this really is something that American audiences reject.
