Howard discusses that the word Reggie should not be bleeped on the E! Network. "Niggergate" pisses off some callers. Billy West is in the studio too.

Robin says "you ant say anything about black people unless it is positive'. She really starts digging in on the racist comments with Howard and putting down the callers. Its crazy how the show has changed.

Not putting this up as race bait but an introspective into the Stern history.

I listened to an old show the other day from 08-21-07.
Howard and Robin were (fake) sick to their stomachs after hearing (being told) that mastertape played a show where they both loved the Iraq war. The 2007 Stern and Quivers whined about how they were lied to about WMDs as a deflection from all the shit they were taking.
(fun fact....Howard and robin loved the Iraq war even after no wmds found. Robin wanted to bomb Iran and Syria too...:jj:)

2007 caller told Stern he was honest and brave for not censoring the tapes.
(fun fact....that tape never aired again!)

And he started censoring the tapes, that's the real disappointment.

I suspect that much of the "Bush lied about WMD" talk from those who once supported the war is mostly about rationalizing their desire to be part of the popular thought of the day. 2003=Iraq popular. A few years later. Not so popular. Therefore, "I was lied to" rather than "turns out it was a bad idea, I was mistaken".

When you look back, many of the justifications presented for the war (and loudly praised by many, such as Howard) had little or nothing to do with WMD. Rationales included Saddam defying UN resolutions and other post Gulf war agreements, abuses of his people, bounties paid to suicide bombers' families, rhetoric encouraging more terrorism, etc, etc.

But when that becomes passe', the trendy set discards it and "antiwar" becomes the new flavor of the month. Meanwhile, the Ron Pauls and others who always said we needed to mind our own business and stay out of the area completely are called "nutjobs".

Edit: Oh yeah, and now many people who were anti-war based on being lied to about WMD are FOR airstrikes and intervention even though there is no direct mention of WMD.

I'm sure you listened to the 9/11 show. How many times did he say he wants to bomb the middle east? Not sure if he ever reneged on that but he made the point several times.

Howard, like many democrats was for the Iraq war until the 2004 election started up.

You are completely correct about their reasons for "being lied to about WMDs by Bush" as a partisan excuse. They could also claim that they were lied to by the Clintons as well but notice how they never mention that.

You are also correct about WMD's being far down on the list for justifications for going into Iraq. I'm sure for some people it was the only justification but that number is few.
