The Fraud people at my credit card emailed me today and when I called them, they asked me if I had been buying stuff at a Kroger about 9 states away. Those were the only two transactions. I didn't know you could punch in the numbers and not have the actual card, but apparently you can. :dontknow:

Basically, I want to know which one of you fagzillas has been buying smokes and beer at a Georgia Kroger's today. Hope you wore your hoodie so the security camera didn't get a good look.

Well, after my millions of posts and donating a kidney (even though nobody asked for one) to this site I expected more.

That sucks, yo. I'm glad the credit card company caught it. So i assume you're not responsible for any of that shit, right? If so, that's great. One time, I got a similar call from my credit card company. Same thing. Purchases being made three states away from NJ.

    Except it was me. :jj:

For a moment I was like, "hmmm...maybe I should tell them it wasn't me?" :jj:

I have had cards deaded, because a third party had been compromised, but never any charges run up. Always pisses me off they won't say who the 3rd party is.

BoA is pretty good though. One time my card was locked because of "odd charges". I went to Boston for a weekend. Hotel, dinner, I put them all on the debit card. The thing that kicked it over though was $90 at a gas station in the Bronx. When I was asked about it, I was all like, "No, I didn't spend that. I was on a motorcycle, I can't fit $10 of gas in it." The said the $90 was a hold on the account, their question was the area of the Bronx the charges came from.

I was impressed at how fast they got it. They must have an system that spots same day purchases in different areas and cross checks times. I had used the card for lunch at a deli in my home state that day probably close to the same time whoever had jacked my number was using it in GA. That probably set the bells off.

    And I didn't ask if I was responsible, I'm sure I'm not.

Once I had my debit card compromised.

You won't get dinged for that charges. But I no longer use the card for POS purchases like fast food joints, etc.

The scariest thing the bank told me: there are scanners that can steal the card info without actually touching the card. They just need to be in close proximity to the card. THAT is disturbing.

You sure you didn't just get "phished", brah? Sounds odd that they would contact you by email and have you call them... Did you call a number from the email, or the number on your card? Did they ask you for your CC number, or did they already know it?

Recently I've had 2 separate phone calls from foreign sounding people, claiming to be Microsoft, telling me they had detected a haaaaarrible Windows virus on my computer, and they needed remote access turned on to fix it, but it would be free. When I asked them how a Windows virus got into my Mac OS, I lost the connection both times....I sure hope they call back!!! :ohnoes:
