Half a billion dollars, endless cash incentives, and complete budgetary/creative control...

Is there any contractual bust that even comes close?

I'd say A Rod's last contract was pretty bad.

In 2007, the New York Yankees signed Alex Rodriguez to a 10 year, $275 million contract. The Yankees must continue to pay him more than $90 million on a contract that doesn't expire until he's 42 years old

    Bobby Bonilla

The Mets would release Bobby to play for another team and they would delay the $5.9 million payment for 11 years, with interest. In essence, The Mets agreed to pay Bobby a total of $29.8 million (instead of $5.9 million) in 25 annual installments of $1.192 million, starting in the year 2011. When he received his first $1.192 payment, Bobby was 48 years old and had not played in the big leagues for 10 years.

That was my first thought, I think the Angels' deal with Pujols may end up rivaling it in badness.

    I present for your amazement...
    Jamarcus Russell

The Oakland Raiders selected Russell with the first overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft. Russell held out until the Raiders signed him to a contract worth $61 million with $32 million guaranteed. Russell played three seasons with the Raiders, compiling 7–18 record as a starter. Due to his inconsistent play the Raiders released on May 6, 2010. Russell was later arrested on drug charges.[SUP][5][/SUP] He is currently getting in shape in hopes of an NFL comeback.

Considering he's been pretty much injured since 2008 the Islanders have gotten no value out of this. On the plus side he did go on Bubba's show...

How about the Sixers with Andrew Bynum. $16 million and he never played a single minute.

There have been much worse deals in the business world. For starters, in early 2000 AOL and Time Warner announced that AOL would buy Time Warner for more than $160 billion in the largest merger in corporate history.

B of A probably also regrets the decision to acquire Countrywide.

Yeah, but I don't think the Sixers signed him to that. They just were dumb enough to trade all those guys to get his useless, lazy ass.
