Jesus...Why are there so many out there bound & determined to bring our beloved country down to the level of the troglodytes ??? What happened to personal responsibility & pride ?? ......If you come interview for a job in MY office, you best be prepared to have your credit history reviewed..and, have a reasonable explanation as to why you cant pay your bills on time

Workers' Rights Groups: It's Time to Outlaw Job Applicant Credit Checks

Have you ever applied for a job, only to be told that before the company will consider hiring you, you'll need to consent to a credit check?

So far, only a minority of workers have to submit to this indignity. But according to worker advocacy group The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, it's a growing trend: 47 percent of employers in the U.S. now require that new hires submit to credit checks when applying for certain positions.

The Leadership Conference is not especially pleased about that. And they intend to do something about it.

On Tuesday, a coalition of 50 advocacy organizations, including the American Association of People with Disabilities, Demos, NAACP, Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and Service Employees International Union sent a letter to members of the Senate, urging them to co-sponsor a bill that Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has put forward.

Titled theEqual Employment for All Act, this proposed law would forbid requiring credit checks as a condition of hiring or promoting applicants for "most" positions....

When I was doing home inspections the company that gave us the work "recommended" that we start doing credit checks on our inspectors. We more or less told them to eff themselves about it. Most of the people we hired lost their regular jobs because of the recession and had bills out the yang. One guy who ended up being our top inspector confessed to us after about a year that he had been living in his car when we hired him. He thanked us for the opportunity to put that all behind him.

if there is a new law, it will have exceptions allowing all the people currently checked to still be checked -- it's all posturing

They're already outlawed here in Peoples' Republik of Kalifornia. For people under 30 I don't think it's a big deal. But if someone doesn't have their finances together by their mid to late 30's they are a colossal fuck up.

But but you can easily plot when a person stopped paying their bills on time... If it coincides with a layoff, then you can make exceptions to the rule.... A credit profile isn't the only way a potential employer investigates a potential employee...but it certainly helps to paint a picture of who you're dealing with...

I think that is too much work for most HR departments. They aren't doing it now and they should

Employees should have random credit checks and be fired on the spot if they're behind.
    Hire some responsible people.

Employers pull credit reports because they have no personal experience with the person...since past employers are only allowed to verify start date & separation date, the need to paint a broader picture of the potential employees 'character' is necessary .... Once they've shown to be a valuable, trustworthy employee, the need for a thorough background check diminishes...

They should provide receipts on payday to show they're not being foolish with the money.
