Congress finally does something right. It's time to get our asses to Mars.
    http://www.geek.com/science/nasa-is-expected-to-get-more-money-than-it-asked-for-in-2015-1611591/

NASA has often gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to federal budgets, but a rather fascinating thing happened when the US House of Representatives recently passed its massive $1.1 trillion spending bill. NASA’s 2015 budget actually saw an increase of 2% over 2014 levels, which is even more than the agency asked for. That means more space science is getting done next year.

Under the new budget, NASA would receive a total of $18 billion. That’s $364 million more than last year. NASA requested $500 million less than that, but it will surely be happy to take the extra cash. Of course, being a Congressional spending bill, there are specific requirements for some of this money. Amazingly, though, the increased funding in certain areas didn’t come at the expense of any other space science divisions.

Why do we need to go to mars.

What technology would be develop that will make a difference here on earth? Unless they solve fusion reactions along the way what good does making more bigger and efficient rocket engines. Rocket engines haven't had a significant leap since the Nazi were trying to kill the world.

It's going to take 20 years of R&D before they even attempt a trip to Mars. Hopefully, they develop some cool shit in the process.

What? Rocket Technology is all the same basic principle. Make an explosion and funnel the energy through small holes...(very simply). I doubt there going to find antigravity like in the movies. There isn't going to be any cryo beds. There aren't going to be any ground breaking things discovered. It's just a giant waste of time to go to a planet to find what? Microbes? Bacteria? Worst case scenario, bring back some funky virus that kills all life on earth.

NASA has been underfunded for years now.. that still doesn't bring them back to where we need to be

I would rather spend the money going to mars then to send another dime in Iraq.. last time I checked

we have wasted a trillion on that cluster fuck

    manned space flight is useless.

The thought of going to Mars is insane. One way trip and they would be mentally insane due to confinement for months.

Better money spent devising a way to deflect the next killer Asteroid or Commet, not to mention valuable minerals that you'd find in the asteroid belt. Hower the common dope like the Idea of this being Star Wars or Buck Fucking Rogers.

I think there are a ton of technological advances that could be discovered in the process. Personally, I think they should concentrate on holodecks and food replicators. Imagine getting a perfect virtual blowjob followed immediately by a perfectly cooked steak.

NASA will never get a man to mars.. they can't even put one in fucking orbit now. Same tired old ancient rocket technology from 60 years ago.

Actually, there is a gap in NASA's plans from 2018-~2034, in which they hope to land on the moon, asteroids and/or comets. The future is very fluid depending on technological advances.
