An idea for a Seinfeld script was deemed racist by NBC censors and never used, an article in the New York Post has revealed.

NBC vetoed an idea for a script in which George, played by Jason Alexander, observes: "You know, I have never seen a black person order a salad". The highly successful show’s ninth and final season ended 17 years ago.

The New York Post’s Kyle Smith mentioned the episode in a piece about the treatment of race in Tina Fey’s new show Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, in which a woman who is rescued from from a cult goes to live in New York City. After having been commissioned by NBC, the show was rejected by the network’s censors. It was later taken on by Netflix.

The first series of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt features jokes about Spanish-speaking New Yorkers being slow to learn English, and African Americans using Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday as an excuse not to do things asked of them.

One writer for the blog ravishly.com said of the programme: “I’ve never seen a show with such a diverse cast that was written so obviously and exclusively for privileged white people.”

Smith argues that NBC missed the point of Fey’s writing, which was to send up racial stereotypes instead of confirming them. The nixed Seinfeld plot-line reputedly had a similar tone, which saw the character who made the salad comment turned into the butt of the joke.

Still popular and respected today, Seinfeld has none the less been criticised for it’s all-white cast. Though race was the only taboo it avoided in its scripts themselves, Emmy award-winning comedian and Seinfeld writer Larry David later went on to tackle it extensively in HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm.

In an excruciating episode in the first season called “Affirmative Action”, Larry makes an ill-judged joke which causes offence to a black doctor. This leads to a chain of events which sees Larry deemed a racist by African-Americans for a number of separate incidents. David is also said to be behind the axed "salad" line.

    Shows what they know.
Seinfeld took on race a few times.
There was a whole episode about Elaine dating a guy she "thinks" is black.

Fuck Seinfeld, apparently, in "Freinds" version of New York City, there are no blacks. None.

There was also the episode where George takes a black exterminator out to dinner (pretending he's an old friend) to meet his black boss.

Seinfeld spoon fed political correctness while knocking other taboos in episodes like "The Contest" or the Cigar Store Indian. Michael Richardson fell victim to a monster they all helped create.

It's hardly edgy any longer to make poopy or church lady jokes. Humor and wit is dead in this country. The left killed it.
