Looking to get a new laptop. I've got one that's about ten years old and about to give out. I'm looking to spend less than 400.00

Anyone know of any deals or brands that would fit the bill? Thank you. Stern related because like Baba Booey, I have no idea what I'm doing, what I'm looking for and don't want a product from a company that's, "a bit of a stumble."

I had to get one in 2013 and just went on dell.com and picked one out.

anything you can find at that price is going to be old or garbage ...

might want to try craiglist maybe... if its just internet maybe a chromebook would be your best best
but that is very limited besides that

Avoid Acer at that price range. Look at a chromebook, as the poster above said.

Since you have no idea what you want, and I have no idea what you want other than a laptop for $400. The options are very simple. Look on amazon or newegg.com for laptops that are $400 and choose the one with the most 5 star reviews. Done and done.

Stay away from Dell and HP. i used to be a DCSE and HP certified tech and we would constantly have to go out and fix machines that were only a few days old.

If you can go to 7 or 800, that would make a big difference.

Toshiba Chromebook 2. You can find them for under 200 refurbished. I've have mine a long time and love it long time. You are welcome.

If he had his last one for ten years, he probably needs one as complex as my 80 year old dad can handle. Used is good enough, especially considering he probably has XP on there.

The trackpad is shit too. Had to buy a mouse and this was when it was still less than a year old. Thing freezes up all the time.

I've got an ASUS transformer that's still pretty nice. Small, not super powerful, but it's been good for me. I rarely use my full laptop anymore. It was 300 at the time. You should be able to get something better in the $400 range.

i picked this one up from super bowl hero (and all around role model) cam newton. hang out around a college library/cafeteria/commons/etc and wait for somebody to leave their laptop unmonitored.... or hell just go around a dorm cluster and see if anyone left their dorm unlocked. grab the laptop and then proceed to write your name on it REALLY BIG AND PROUD. nobody will ever suspect you took the laptop, ask university of florida legend and heisman winner CAM NEWTON:

btw on a serious note a lot of people swear by lenovo laptops (the company that acquired the rights to continue making IBM thinkpads) though off the top of my head idk what models are the good ones, and odds are your $400 price barrier would be an issue.

i've been using toshiba satellites in that $250-300 range for my home "internet terminals" which means a lot of wear and tear (this laptop is missing the E and O keys and the trackpad likes to occasionally mess up anbd require me to plug in a USB mouse) but if you can get over that stuff and get a model like this one where the acutal AC adapter hole is good and sturdy and not liable to, say, break off and hide inside the computer, then i can vouch for toshibas still being pretty handy if you want to be an out-n-out asshole to your computer.

for what it's worth i was gifted a dell laptop for christmas 2012 that started being the internet terminal by summer 2013, and i can report that in feb 2014 it suffered a cataclysmic hard drive failure literally ~1 month after the 1yr warranty expired. at least with toshibas if the AC adapter port-hole is sturdy it should take a good beating for at least a couple years.
