Neil Young's Pono music player raises millions

The Kickstarter campaign to fund Neil Young's PonoMusic player reached its goal of $800,000 less than 10 hours after it went live. Now, the campaign has ended after earning nearly eight times that figure. It is officially the third highest-funded campaign in Kickstarter history.

This is depressing. Neil was one of my hero's :bigcry:
If people were getting shares of stock, then I would be cool with it. But they get nothing if it's successful, right?

I don't get how all of these millionaires have the balls to ask their fans to pony up cash for their pet projects, films, etc. I also don't get the moron fans that give them the money.
Neil Young says he won't sell out to Budweiser, but he will beg fans for that much money. Fuck you Neil!

If Bill Gates asked people to donate to a charity of his choosing, that's something I would consider. He has donated BILLIONS of his own money to schools roads education. etc.... people like that who don't just solicit to give themselves a name in the press are the ones that get a pass if they're asking for money.

I love the idea, but it doesn't look very pocket friendly being shaped like a toblerone.

I will take "Things that Howard Stern would never do" for $800,000, Alex.

Answer: use Kickstarter, as then we would be able to see how he is not popular, not interested in his wife, his fan base has declined, and none of them would donate to a Kitten Ranch

    A media player?

Not a crowded market at all, what with phones and all.

    Good luck with that!

They don't get stock - it's illegal to sell shares to the public without the proper filings. Most of these projects give a t-shirt or a discount on the finished product...if it ever makes it to market.
