The Netflix site is about to get an update. The video-streaming service has rolled out its first major website update in four years, optimizing it for a mouse, trackpad, or touch screen.

The update, Netflix Product Innovation Director Cameron Johnson said, will make it "faster and easier to discover something great to watch."

The new website offers a "richer, more visual experience … that works more like an app and less like a series of linked Web pages," he continued. The new website should help Netflix visitors explore the site's vast catalog of shows and movies quicker than ever before.

For instance, information will now appear in-line rather than on a separate page for easier browsing. Plus, when you hover your mouse over a title, you'll now see a slideshow of images from that movie or show.

"We hope this slideshow will give you a better feel for what the show is about than reading the description alone," Johnson wrote.

If you want more information, just click the title or synopsis. This will open a new "details pane," where you can browse episodes and read detailed reviews. From there, you can explore similar titles by clicking More Like This, or jump to titles from the same cast, genre, or mood.

It should also be much faster to scroll through rows of shows as each mouse click will now advance a full row at a time. Those on a touch-screen device can tap to play or open details, and swipe to scroll through rows of shows and movies.

Netflix said the new website is rolling out globally, starting today, but it may take up to two weeks to reach all members. Those using outdated Web browsers may be prompted to upgrade before they can access the new site.

30% of internet traffic...and the interface is shit. I can't imagine it being worse than what it is currently.

I just very recently started taking advantage of the fact that I've been paying for Netflix for two years now (thanks to our son!)

Really wish they would just spend every spare cent getting more quality/popular titles available to stream. Then worry about interface. Really don't need to make it 'easier' to search through shit. Just need less shit to search, more gold. Better captioning on ALL titles as well.

Every time some "web designer" says it's going to give a "richer" experience, it's a fucking pile of shit. :jj:

Simple thought: Hire business consulting firm to come in and do new logo, and fire 30% of the workforce. 100 grand is all you spent and bonus -extra revenue with fewer employees. Firm called Consultio/Consultius. Couple good blokes, Alan Johnson and Mark Corrigan.

I just reread this and realized it sounded bitchier than I had intended. I meant to say that our son signed up for it, without telling me, because of the "one month free" BS, intending to cancel at the end of that month, then of course, forgot to cancel it. So, like I said, I've been paying for it for about 2 years now. But, he DOES use it a lot, so I guess it's worth the $8 a month. :dontknow:
