Interesting clip... turns out Ben Stern bought his recording studio from Fortune Pope. The Popes were one of the richest families in New York and a conspiracy theorist's wet dream. Some quick googling shows all sorts of connections to the mob, the Vatican, US Presidents, etc... His brother worked for the CIA in psychological operations before quitting to start The National Enquirer.

Didn't Howard say Ben retired at age 50 or something like that? So that would be back in the 70's where only the very rich could retire at that age. Howard is so full of shit when he says his parents had no money. Owning a recording studio in the middle of manhattan= $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

I've always thought there was something bogus about the story of his father's finances and retirement. He supposedly had several partners and it's hard to believe his share could have been enough to buy a house, put a kid through college, and live comfortably. Even if he was smart and lucky with his investments it still doesn't seem possible.

Someone tweet this to Oliver Stone- STAT!!!!

Then it'll race into development hell in Hollywood- then proceed to fester for 4-8 years and never even get beyond a 2nd draft, much like the Porky's remake (for which the world was absolutely clamoring- ooooohhhhh, PLEASE remake a shitty unfunny trashy teen sex comedy that barely even had any nudity anyway- PLEEEAAAASSSSEEEE uncle Howie?????)

HEY, Howard pegged that young, up and coming screen writer Alex Winter to develop that. Are you trying to say Howard isn't a good evaluator of talent?

Howard said Fortune Pope gave his father the opportunity to buy the recording studio because his father never missed a day of work.

"Howard read an email from someone who said he was out of line asking Gary those questions yesterday. Howard said that this guy probably takes off any day he can take off. Howard said his dad was a radio engineer and he made a great living for a guy who grew up poor. He said his dad never missed a day of work. Howard said if he was being paid that day he showed up. Howard said his mother would go crazy when he'd go to work in a blizzard. Howard said he worked for this guy named Fortune Pope and he owned a bunch of things. Howard said his father was an engineer and Fortune called his dad. Howard said Fortune asked about how he never misses a day. Howard was doing his impression of his dad during this discussion. Howard said Fortune asked if he was a union guy. Howard said his dad was but he works too hard for a union guy. Howard said Fortune said he likes him and he had a recording studio that he wanted his dad to run. Howard said his dad asked if he'd lose his place in the union. Pope liked his dad so much he said he'd keep him in the union. Howard said his dad went to work every day and worked his ass off. Howard said he did a good day's work.

Howard said Pope comes to his dad eventually and asks if he wants to own the recording studio. Howard said his dad never owned anything. He said his dad bought the business with some other guys. He said his father eventually left the union and had his own business. He had the largest recording studio in the city. Howard said people say he's lucky but it's not luck. It's hard work."

ben literally rejected his transgendered son at birth, hence, howard's deep seated hatred for his father was his driving force to castigate ben's accomplishments

Lately, I have been thinking that this is pretty close to the truth. Such a weird pathology to Howard with his parents.
