An upcoming compilation, Way Down in the Jungle Room, due out August 5th, will collect the sessions – including rare alternate takes of songs.

One such rarity is an outtake of one of the first tunes the singer recorded in the Jungle Room, "She Thinks I Still Care."

Take two, here, is a swinging, straight-ahead country number, gilded with honky-tonk piano and elastic guitar as Presley flexes his voice on the song's twisty melody. It's a looser, more off-the-cuff performance than the widely released version, and it shows executive producer Presley and producer Felton Jarvis' interest in experimentation.

George Jones couldn't sing a country song badly.

Is it titled "way down in the jungle room" because "Way Down" , his final single, was recorded there?

I assume. I think the last 2-3 recording sessions were done in the Jungle Room. Two full albums worth of material.

I'm not generally a country or Elvis fan, but I must say, I liked that one!

I'm a big Elvis fan, but at this point most of these outtakes seem like cash grabs to me. For example, there have been versions of him singing "she thinks I still care" floating around for at least 40 years now.

I like to remember the old Elvis that my father put into my head. Not the bloated Elvis who was a shell of himself.

Don't get me wrong, Iove Elvis. But these people that love Elvis are the same that shit on Bieber, Timberlake and others.

You know damn well that parents in the 50s hated him

Been out for years. Not officially though. And the FTD releases are STELLAR. They get exactly how these bootlegs should sound and look.

True enough. But that new recording was done just 18 months before the end and he sounds like he's in fine voice.

Ever hear the Tucson FTD? He's sleep-walking through the concert and then halfway through he does a version of Danny Boy that knocks the entire audience on its ass. And then he goes back to sleepwalking through the rest of the show.

I have it somewhere--until the very end, he still had talent--even that godawful last concert film they released.

His tongue is so ripped, and he's clearly high as a kite but when he gets around to singing, he clearly has the goods. What a waste. He could have been doing a VH-1 Storytellers special or an incredible blues album as an old man.

Oh no doubt, I love any new Elvis stuff. I liked when "A little Less Conversation" came out in 2002. I was in my teens, but thought it was the coolest thing because it was Elvis. I just mean the guy went out to early in his career. He was still a young guy and just beat the hell out of himself. He was not the Elvis of old.

No argument, the guy had one hell of a voice, even at the end. A voice you never really come across in music.
