Hubby and I are looking at new homes in myrtle beach this week..new construction

I'm reading bad stuff on the net about some of these builders..plus all the workers look like guys the contractor picked up from in front of home depot

Also notice some sloppy work in the model homes

    Anyone?

We liked the Kolter homes..but Noone could answer my questions about whether they use cement board with a vapor barrier and/or a coat of redguard

Also saw a service for one house...aluminum feeders coming in....

Lady didn't know if the tile was porcelain

Is the trim mdf or wood?

    Wtf?

Custom or tract? You should know being in the trades, when it's the cookie cutter shit it is blow and go. For every home buyer that has a sharp eye and makes them come back to fix defects under warranty, there are ten that'll never notice. You have a custom builder, you should be assigned a project manager who you can beat up every step of the way. That place is exactly the way you want it or else they don't get final payment until it is.

Yeah..they are tract builders. We like the community aspect and the fact that no one can park a trailer home across the street

Idiots. You might as well be buying a house from Home Depot. That's about the level of service these builders can provide these days.

I'm also not so sure about ultimately moving down south...this may be an issue for my husband.

I'm truly a Queens girl...not a big fan of suburban living

There's something to be said for that too. Most HOA's are pretty diligent these days, no matter which community you find yourself in.

Yikes...relax! We went in with open minds. With these communities you don't get that trailer home shit which is abundant down here

Trying to move up in the world...not down

If you are from Queens, you may want to try a beach community with a little more action like Tampa or Jacksonville.

Where is "down here"? Vacation home, or retirement down the road?
