    Meet "Strike".....

He is a retired race horse and we are providing him a home, possibly temporararily, to help a friend of Mrs. Lemmy. He is a bit underweight (long story) so we have to fatten him up a bit. He just got here today but the other horses have already taken baby steps towards accepting him so hopefully it will all work out fine. He is a sweetie.

    Our current mini-herd......

    Blaze.....

I'd imagine retired race horses aren't too fond of midgets.

Hey Lemmy, how many horses do you have? Want to post some pictures of them?

Lemmy, would you say horses are as smart as dogs or a tad less intelligent? I've never spent time around them so I don't know their temperament/learning ability.

Who is? Priests, clowns, boy scout leaders and midgets/dwarfs = shudders

At least these horses don't live off taxpayer handouts, don't live in their parents basement and are retired after having productive and proud working lives.
    :cheer:

We only own two and their pics are in the 1st posting of the thread. "Blaze" is a 21 year old retired police horse and "Sky" is a 25-ish year old retired therapeutic riding pony (he worked with Schmoopies). I'll see what other pics I have handy on my phone and I'll post 'em in a few.

I deal with them as a pet owner so someone who rides or works with them would probably have a better idea. I think they are on par with a smart dog. Same thing with their personalities. Blaze is a character......very goofy and playful with me and my wife but sort of a bully with other horses (I think he was the "alpha horse" at the police mounted unit). Sky is a crotchety old man but he is entitled since he was overworked for most of his life. The big difference with the horses is their "prey animal" mentality.....easily spooked and overly sensitive to aggressive moves and noises whereas my dogs tend to act more as the predator......still sweet and playful but typically fearless and aggressive when challenged. The horses can be quite scary due to their size and massive strength......you just have to respect 'em and be smart when interacting. I've only been around them for about a year but couldn't imagine life without them now.
