Looking to purchase a new Hybrid. I do a lot of miles in a year and want the good gas mileage. I have already owned a Prius so I am looking for something different. Right now the Honda Accord, Honda Civic, and Toyota Camry are on my radar. Do you guys have any experience and suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Howard related because it will come with free SiriusXM and I still won't listen.

I do lots of km a year in a diesel Jetta. Can't beat 1000km per tank.

I agree we have a VW diesel and it kicks ass. 550 miles to the tank.

My parents bought a Ford Fusion Energi (hybrid/electric up to 20 miles) and it's a really nice vehicle. I've been real impressed. My wife and I bought a Focus Electric and it's been terrific, but you're limited in range.

It doesn't matter ... most hybrids come with an automatic testicle removal kit that activates the moment you drive it off the lot.

Leasing or buying outright? How long do you plan to keep it? When do the battery packs need replacing? Do you do more highway or city driving?

The other factor is the price premium you might pay for a hybrid. The math may not work out.

The turbo 5 speed version of that car was fun to drive...sewing machine 1.0 liter engine though.

Same here, VW TDI or Audi TDI is the way to go. All the savings of a hybrid, but, way better resale. You can get 300,000 miles out of the engine without skipping a beat.

With mostly highway driving you get better mileage out a diesel than a hybrid too.

This. Don't be foolish, if mpg is your goal. Do the math. A hybrid or electric will cost at LEAST $5 - $10 thousand more than a comparable car, and gas is $2 a gallon again.

Assume $3 or $4 gas and do the fucking math -- see how many years or decades it will take to come close to making back all the extra money you blew to feel virtuous.

The other thing are the battery packs...if it costs $4,000 to change them at 80,000 to 100,000 miles it makes the math even worse.

Buy a hybrid because of environmental reasons or personal preference, not because of cost savings...except if you lease and the car has an insane residual value.

I did the math. The break even point is at 4 years and I tend to keep my cars for 6.

Really? That's remarkable. I did the math when gas was $3.50 and I was looking at a 10 - 15 break even on even the cheapest Prius versus a very nice compact car.
