New Jersey teacher, 32, accused of having sex with female student BY TOBIAS SALINGER NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Sunday, June 21, 2015, 9:26 PM BERGEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE New Jersey charter school teacher Lauren Mitchell, 32, is accused of having sex with a female teen from her school in the teacher's Lyndhurst home, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office. A New Jersey charter school teacher is accused of having sex with a female teen student from her school in the teacher’s home, officials said. Lauren H. Mitchell, a second-grade teacher at Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School in Jersey City, was arrested Friday and charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, according to Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli. Investigators say Mitchell, a married 32-year-old resident of Lyndhurst, engaged in “inappropriate sexual activity” with a 15-year-old student at her residence at least one time. The two allegedly performed oral sex on one another, authorities told the Cliffview Pilot. Fellow teachers at the K-8 school noticed “inappropriate interactions” between Mitchell and the alleged victim during a recent class trip and notified school officials, prosecutors said. County prosecutors’ special victims unit and the Lyndhurst Police Department conducted the investigation after law enforcement officials in Hudson County, N.J., alerted Molinelli’s office to the reports. Mitchell is incarcerated in Bergen County Jail on a $150,000 bail, and she’ll be required to give up her passport and stay away from the alleged victim, prosecutors say. She’s scheduled to be arraigned on July 7.
