I just saw a new AGT commercial proclaiming that over 21 million people watched Howard Stern's judging debut. They failed to mention that that was the total of the two nights and that it was really less then 11 million of the same people each night. NBC is in on the spin.

I've noticed the word "ratings" isn't being used in any discussions of AGT on H100 & 101 or in any NBC ads.

Howard has been a great influence on NBC. They have adopted Stern math. Howard now has 41 million fans. He's got 20 million on Sirius and 21 million on AGT. Sternmania is sweeping the nation.

They could have just put the Wig in Piers' old chair and just have a shot of it once in a while and got the same ratings bump.

they each got two eyes. The 21 million number is accurate and fair.

Sorry, but every network does this from time to time...Deceptive? Yes... New? Nope...

I would say NBC is pretty pleased with the AGT ratings so far...Too bad the show is unwatchable... UGH!

Well what no one seems to mention is that the Nielsen ratings are a statistic. It's not at all an accurate measure of how many people actually watched something. Currently there are approximately 30,000 households that participate in the Nielsen ratings system (out of approximately 115,000,000 households that have a television). Not really a representative sample. All they know for certain is that at least a few thousand people watched that shit.

Wait till the DVR ratings come in.

    It'll be 30 million.

You think they're pretty pleased with ratings lower than last season's AGT after Howie's big pay and big promo? Uh huh. Even Howie doesn't sound too pleased.

It doesn't matter because all shows are measured under the same system. If there are statistical errors with ratings then they will occur in all shows. Nielsen uses a sampling of a variety of people to get their stats and extrapolate just like polling firms. Gallup interviews 1000 voters out of 150 million who will vote and yet they get pretty accurate polling results because they use samples of different party affiliation and different age/race/sex.
Nielsen is the same. They crunch numbers and stats from sampled groups who were chosen to be a Nielsen family.

    Pleased??

You are a fucking moron. They paid WAY more for Howard, promoted the shit out of it and then it came in lower than last years episode or any other previous episode.

Yeah I'm sure THAT's what they paid Howard for. Fucking moron.

    :jj:

That's why he zero impact on the 18-49 demographic compared to the ratings without him...

I guarantee his contract will not be renewed...He will not receive any bonus and and he will sue NBC

My first inclination is to join in the condemnation of bloney's ridiculous "NBC is pretty pleased" assertion, but first, how is a carefully selected and monitored group of households NOT a representative sample? What number would you deem statistically viable?

If they were pleased, Wiggy would be dancing in the streets. We would not hear the end of it.

so true...he barely mentioned agt on wednesday's show. all we have been hearing about for the last 5 months is howard/agt talk. the public has been exposed to non-stop ads and promotional appearances by howard breathlessly proclaiming HOWARD IS ON AMERICA'S GOT TALENT!!!!!!YAYYAYYAYYAYYAYYAYYAY!!!!!! and this is the best they could do? sorry, they've got to be disappointed.

they're also replaying monday and tuesday AGT this weekend.
they know they've got a turkey on their hands so they're going to troll for a few million more.... they're so desperate to justify the massive money grab that howard perpetuated they're hitting the public over the head with this shit show.
