I got a work email with this in it:

"Can we have someone reach out to the following location and get a bead on exactly what is going on here?"

I would have just asked someone to call and find out what was going on, without getting all fancypants about it

Really; this was addressed to a bunch of other people, too. The sender could have just completed the task himself, jargon-free, in about 2 minutes.

Getting water = Procuring liquid hydration
Making copies = Creating duplicate documentation
Taking a shit = Managing waste evacuation

    etc. etc.

The term is to get a bead on. It's a shooting term. to focus on a target.

My personal favorite lately is to "book time with" :D
