Martin Scorsese is putting the old gang back together — and swearing in a new member — for a mob movie green-lighted through big-bucks deals struck at the Cannes Film Festival, according to reports Sunday.

“The Irishman,” which has been stuck in development hell for years, is set to star Scorsese stable-mates Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, who both played key roles in the director’s classic gangster flicks, “GoodFellas” and “Casino.”

Reports said it would also reunite Scorsese withHarvey Keitel, who last worked with Scorsese on 1988’s “The Last Temptation of Christ” and co-starred in the director’s 1976 legendaru “Taxi Driver.”

The instant Oscar-bait film would also mark the first collaboration between Scorsese and legendary “Godfather” star Al Pacino.

The screenplay for the 1970s-era biopic is based on the 2004 book “I Heard You Paint Houses,” which details the deathbed confessions of Frank Sheeran, a Philadelphia-area hit man who claimed to have murdered Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa in 1975.

Digital technology would let the actors — all in their 70s — age backward, according to Variety.

Great. Goodfellas except everyone is 25 years older and much more embarrassing.

Good. DeNiro needed this. Hopefully it'll be great and he could go out on a decent note.

Pesci hasn't done much lately. His cameo in the Good Shepherd was probably the last thing I remember seeing him in.

He was supposed to play Uncle Pete in Louis CK's Horace & Pete, but turned it down. Same with Jack Nicholson. What kind of ego does Louie have when Jack Nicholson is your SECOND choice?

I have heard about this for years, glad to hear its moving forward.
DeNiro needs Scorsese to save him from his horrible film choices lately. (Pacino too, I have seen some straight to video gems that he shouldn't be in)

these "dream team" scenarios never work out.

Look for this to be overhyped and sucky if Digital Magic makes them younger.

Deniro and Pacino were in some piece of shit within the last 5 years or so. I only saw a little bit of it, but I'm pretty sure Fifty Cent was involved. He was sounding the death knell to their careers.

    Pesci is effectively retired.

His most recent "Screen credit" was for voice over work for a 2015 Swedish animated film called "A Warrior's Tail."

Before that, his most recent credit was in 2010 for a film called "Love Ranch" about a couple (played by Joe Pesci and Helen Mirren) who open the first legal brothel in Nevada. It got 12% on Rotten Tomatoes, and grossed less than $150,000...about 1/4 of what Artie Lange's "Beer League" grossed.

Before that, you have to go back to his single scene "Good Sheppard" appearance in 2006.

Before that, you have to go back eight years to 1998 and "Lethal Weapon 4."

So he's done one scene, one film, and voice over work on a straight to video cartoon in 18 years

Love DeNiro. But he's done a money grab on his way out the door, with shit scripts and big paydays. I think his last movie had its premiere at a drive-in theater. :artiejj:

Has he made a bomb? Even bad film by Scorcese is infinitely better than Bays best.
