So I went to a wedding over the weekend. I have not been to one since 2006 or so.

This was at a beautiful high-end place with great food, decor, etc.

I really hate to sound like an old fart about this, but I never went to a wedding like this. After cocktail hour, they kept the lights practically off for the majority of the night, as if you were in a club, so you couldn't even appreciate how nice it all looked . They didn't play any of the standard wedding crap like the Chicken Dance or the Macarena (which was fine by me), but it was nonstop club music for 4 hours.

If you wanted to have a conversation with anyone, you needed to go outside, because you literally had to shout. Some of the older (yes, even older than me!) people complained that there weren't even any slow songs to dance to now and then. It was really was a pain in the ass after awhile, between screaming to be heard and banal music imploring you to put your hands in the air every other song. I thought it was just me being a crab over it, then I heard other people being just as annoyed over it.

They paid top dollar to be at such a nice place, but for all we got to enjoy of it, they could have just rented any crappy hall.

Easy Tigger, what it comes to (think Kardashian/ Kanye West wedding) is you can't buy class or style.

Glad they got rid of those 2 horrible dances, besides that sounds pretty moronic.

You don't even get a 'free' party. You end up paying more in the cash gift than the drinks and usually forgetful food is worth.

Especially if you're in the wedding party. Then forgettaboutit. :grr:

It's been such a long time since i've been to a traditional wedding. The last two we went to were in Vegas and the other took place on a farm so we were in a barn for the reception. They had a dj but it wasn't completely annoying.

Our wedding was low key, took place in our house two years ago. Very relaxed reception. I think we had Pandora playing the r.e.m. channel in the background.

    :c

that's why I loved my nephew's venue, the dancing was in a separate room, it was surrounded by a lounge area and across from the banquet room.

Mlaw, do you stand in the corner at weddings wringing your hands, smiling, and hoping the seven year itch comes early and often??

They are bad enough under the best of circumstances. I was sitting with people I actually liked and wanted to talk to them.

I dragged someone from my table who is kind of priggish to the wedding down the hall. They had better music. One of the bridesmaids from that wedding was standing in the hall. We told her how bad the music was at our wedding and she invited us in. So the priggish woman and I danced to The Ramones. It was probably the most outlandish thing she ever did.

The bride was adamant about NOT having that. We didn't have the garter and bouquet toss, either. :golfclap:

I must say that I do hear a lot of young people say that they really don't like the music of today; that they like a lot of the older stuff.
