Anyone dumb enough to be a hobo in New York deserves to get hit by a train. Make your way down south where a good winter isn't a death sentence.

It's not like you have a family who cares about you. Start walking.

The homeless person was barely injured. Most likely the homeless person just harassed the wrong person that day.

I hate the word "homeless". Its purposely generic because people wont have sympathy for crack addict or mentally ill homeless.

I don't know what's worse about getting shoved onto the tracks -- possible death by subway car, or by being skeeved by what's down there <shudder>.

Is it wrong that I won't mind if the police or a special group goes around collect all the homeless and the low scum of society, and put them on a bus where the exhaust feeds back into the bus ? The other night I was doing work at a building in our downtown area..

    - I've seen people walk around with sunglasses on, even tho it was 8:30 at night.
    - Woman ask me if I had a cell phone that I could borrow, she didn't have a quarter for the pay phone 30 ft away, I think its the last pay phone in town.
    - And another fuck screaming "FUCK!!!!" a block away, every 3 sec.
    - And of course whats a scumbag without a pitbull that's not on a leash. This guy used the pay phone and all I hear was "fuck, fuck, no wait, fuck, look, fuck....i'm downtown,...well fuck you, I said FUCK YOU!!!!...okay i'm sorry, i'm downtown, yeah i'm gonna go get some change at the gas station, call you back" Thank christ he didn't come back.

Seeing that overhead photo of the subway tracks inspired me to finally research something I've always wondered about.

What is - "The Third Rail"?

I knew it was the rail that carries the current that powers the train, but what does it look like - which one is it?

I got my answer from WikiPedia, but neither WikiPedia or any other site answered another question. It said that the rails that the train/car rides on carry the current back to the power station. That being the case - shouldn't they also be capable of electrocuting anyone that touched them? If the return current is carried over both tracks, I guess the current would be half that of the hot "third rail", but I would think that would still be lethal.

I looked at a number of web sites and couldn't find an answer. Anybody know?

(I'm anticipating No Response/Crickets. Somebody surprise me with a sensible answer!)
