Next time anyone tries to convince you that NASCAR is 'fast', remind them of this...

    Indianapolis Motor Speedway:

2013 Indy Lights Pole Speed - 189.243 mph
2012 Nextel Cup Pole Speed - 182.763 mph

How does a car (whose team budget generally averages around $800k a year, using mildly modified Infinity Q45 street production engines) propel a car around a track nearly 5 & half miles an hour faster than the fastest Nextel cup team? (whose annual team budget typically averages around $10-$20 million)

This waste of money & technology absolutely perplexes me .... How do people get so excited watching such an albatross ??

    God bless :hat:

Your argument makes no sense. You are equating the amount of money spent to race a car to the speed of the car. You are comparing apples to oranges.

Would it not make sense that the lions share of a teams budget goes to drivers salaries and implementing cutting edge technology to make their car(s) go faster?? ..I mean we're talking about a 20-fold difference in budget cost ... What are they getting for their money?? .. A car that cant even outpace another that only has a modified street engine ...

F1 racing can get a bit tedious at times, but the technology they employ is second to none ... It's hard to get impressed with what NASCAR's putting on the track

Sorry but NASCAR is racing and F1 is the car's technology doing everything for the driver except turning the wheel. I will admit I am not a big fan of NASCAR's new MarkVI car but it is a lot more entertaining than open wheel racing(with the exception of Sprint Cars and Midgets).

I cant for the life of me understand why they don't... I get that the extra speed may make it more dangerous, but no one is holding a gun to these guys' heads to get them to drive ... I used to occasionally follow NASCAR back in the day when things weren't so regulated.. But, anymore, its just a giant pack of cars going around in circles lap after lap ...Its like watching the Blue Angels fly around in a circular formation for 3 hours ....

Cuz they want to keep them bunched up, and not have one guy lapping the whole field at Daytona or Talladega.

    dummy.

NASCAR is twitching the wheel to the left an inch and a half every 20 seconds.... There's no heart in it.
I cant defend F1 completely, but at least they're required to actually drive the car (turning left and right, up-shifting & down-shifting 60-80 times per lap, adjusting on on-board weight-jacker to balance out the car, etc) ... If it was all car, then people like Michael Schumaker & Ayrton Senna wouldn't have had the success they had... I do believe there is a certain skill-set needed to be successful in NASCAR, but the talent pool that F1 has to draw from is much, much more narrower than it is for NASCAR..... In fact, I think it requires a lot more skill to drive a Sprintcar than it does a Nextel Cup car

When I want advice on what its like to rent my home when I'm middle-aged, or how much Gheri-curl to glop into my white-man fro, I'll seek out your expertise... But, beyond that, your knowledge is useless here

So the quantitative number of NASCAR tattoos inked on the arms, backs & heads of illiterate rednecks is directly proportionate to how fast the cars drive ?? I'm not familiar with this hypothesis
