I hate misinformed people in leadership roles.

One of Paytons's clueless ramblings ......... “It was a large caliber gun. A .45,” said Payton. “It was designed back during World War I. And this thing just stops people. It will kill someone within four or five seconds after they are struck. You bleed out. After the first shot, he took three more in his back. … We could go online and get 10 of them and have them shipped to our house tomorrow.

As a gun owner I am okay with him saying that...

So, people are not allowed to not like guns? It's not like he said they all need to confiscated or something.

Clearly there's not much there for the wrapping.

    :artiejj:

And that wasn't even the stupidest thing he said in just that one paragraph. :jj:

I don't have a problem with him advocating for his position.

My problem is with the rationale he uses to justify his position, which alternatively varies between ridiculousness and outright falsehoods.

Payton shouldn't be mad at guns. He should be crazy angry at the dead football player for not carrying his own .45. Then he'd be alive and a hero too. Let's all pack some heat!!

If he were to use a legally owned and carried firearm to defend himself and his wife from a murderer, I would consider that to be a fairly heroic act. YMMV.

The dead football player did have a loaded gun in his car. Seems like he initially acted like the tough guy telling the other guy "I have a gun" over some road incident. He probably didn't count on the other guy having his own gun at the ready. Actually if he didn't have a gun he wouldn't have gotten so brave and let it go. Then he'd still be alive.
