What's up for discussion and what will be voted on by the owners next week. Some changes suggested by the league and some suggested by certain team owners.

    1. Changing season from 16 to 18.

    2. Raising the goal posts 5 more feet.

    3. Moving the extra point back to the 25 yard line.

    4. Moving kickoffs to the 40 yard line.

    5. The Navarro Bowman rule. Refs able to review the recovery of a loose ball in the field of play.

    6. Be able to review personal fouls.

    7. Eliminating OT in preseason.

    8. Putting a camera on all six boundary lines for better reviews.

    9. Allowing a team to open or close a roof at halftime.

    10. Expanding the playoffs. Not up for vote next week but will be down thee road.

Some of these I don't really care about. Move the kickoff back even further? C'mon, just eliminate kickoffs then. Move the PAT out to the 25? Yes, it's a given these days and no point to kicking it. Eliminating OT in preseason? Hell yeah, no reason to injure guys in preseason. Open or close the roof at halftime? Why not. Raise the goal posts? Not sure why. Are there big problems with balls going over them all the time? Expanding the playoffs? NO! The NFL is great the way it is, why ruin it. More games, more playoffs? Too much football and too much strain on the athletes, if you ask me.

You would really be for removing the kick offs? I think that would be weird.

Baseball almost never has rule changes, yet football is tinkering with this shit every year. Enough.

Expanding the season to 18 games is off the table for now, the new head of the players' association said there is no give on that one.

The preoccupation with kickoff changes makes no sense to me, the perception of injury risk is much higher than the reality.

A few of those make sense, I suppose. Who gives a shit about pre-season games? I just wish they'd stop monkeying around with it period.

    1. Season from 16 to 18, hell no. Funny thing is they are about "player-safety" and shit but then want to expand the season? WTF?

    2. Raising the goal-posts five feet. . . . I don't really care. It would make some kicks more challenging. I would like to see FG's from, say, 55 yards out count for four. I believe NFL Europe did that and it was kinda cool.

    3. XP from 25 yd line: Yes. Keep the XP but make it more challenging. Sounds fair.

    4. Moving KO's. I'd rather see them move it than see them get rid of it to preserve on-side kicks, squibs, etc.

    5. Review of loose-ball. . . . I dunno. There's so much time already spent on reviews. . . . do we want even more?

    6. Personal foul reviews. . . . same as above.

    7. Eliminate OT from pre-season. Absolutely. Again, player safety. Besides, in pre-season, the first team is generally pulled by the half.

    8. More cameras. Why not? It may make reviews quicker. Certainly more precise.

    9. Open or close roof at half-time. . . . no. Because that choice could be made by the home team to some sort of strategic advantage. Say the home team is ahead 14 pts and it's a windy, blustery, day outside. They could choose to open the roof to squash the opponents passing game, etc. I vote no.

    10. Expanded playoffs. Hell no. Again, player safety is a concern? Then why expand the playoffs? Also, the NFL is at risk of watering down its product already with games on Thurs, Sun, and Mon. And that Mon game isn't even an event anymore.

If anything, MNF should be brought back to broadcast to make it "must-see" tv once again. When is the last time I heard any kind of energy surrounding "what happened on MNF last night"?

Not since it went to cable.

They already moved them up and about 9 out of 10 go into the endzone for a touchback now. So if they move them further up, there will never be a run back. So if that's the case and they are moving them up even further now, I say eliminate them. What's the point? :dontknow:

It's disappointing. The kickoff return is of the greatest plays in football.
I get they want to lower injuries, how about teams stay in the locker rooms and play madden 25 than. Nah, someone might hurt a thumb :rolleye:

    1. Changing season from 16 to 18. No this is only about more money for the owners.
    2. Raising the goal posts 5 more feet. No. How is that fair to people who have been kicking for years?
    3. Moving the extra point back to the 25 yard line. Don't care.
    4. Moving kickoffs to the 40 yard line. No. Why bother having kickoffs if they will all be touchbacks?
    5. The Navarro Bowman rule. Refs able to review the recovery of a loose ball in the field of play. Don't they do this already?
    6. Be able to review personal fouls. No fucking way. Games will take for ever. They do stuff like this in college basketball and it slows the game down a lot.
    7. Eliminating OT in preseason. Yes
    8. Putting a camera on all six boundary lines for better reviews. Yes
    9. Allowing a team to open or close a roof at halftime. Don't care.
    10. Expanding the playoffs. Not up for vote next week but will be down thee road. Definitely not. You already have 8-8 teams getting in.

True. It's an awesome part and it never even happens anymore, so I have no idea why they want to move it further up?? Look at the Superbowl. That kickoff runback was huge! How can they eliminate kickoffs now in football?

Why are you against the xp move? I'm just curious because most people seem to be up for changing it. So i am interested in the opposing view.

I'm surprised each team doesn't have a power kicker that kicks it out of the endzone every time already. Guys like Hester have to really be pissed.

Carolla has been ranting about raising the goal posts for years. Why would anyone be against this? Ball always fly over top of them and it's hard to get a proper angle to determine if the ball went between the posts or not. Raise em up a few feet, problem solved, no skin off anyones sack, what's the problem with that?

    No reason. Just a traditionalist.
Now that you made me think, It wouldn't be automatic anymore, and that would lead to more 2 point plays. Ok I'm for it!

My highly valued opinions are above.

    I would add:

    1. Eliminate intentional grounding exception of throwing it away if "out of pocket". Game is too passing/offense biased. Each new rule benefitting offense should be balanced with reductions in other non-safety related ones to keep the game balanced.

    2. Something to reduce the ridiculous amount of situational substitutions. Require players to be well rounded. Would reduce roster costs too. Teams are too thin in talent because instead of 11 positions they really have about 16 on each side of the ball counting the various "specialists". This has led to DB's who can't tackle and RB's who can't block or catch. And a lot of huge fatass DT's there to just take up space on goal line situations.

    3. Eliminate the "officials only" reviews rule during last 2 minutes of half and allow those with remaining challenges to use them.

So let it be written, so let it be done.

If my team is behind and I'm trying to figure out how they can get back in it I always calculate the math like the point is a given basically a TD is a given 7. I am a traditionalist too but i think this could be a fun change.
