It's obvious why Artie Lange, Bob Levy and maybe Jim florentine do not get booked on the show but what's the deal with these other guys never being on anymore.
    Colin Quinn
    Doug Stanhope
    Nick Dipaolo
    Dave Attell
    Greg Fitzsimmons
Even Gilbert and Dice and lampanelli are hardly on.

Colin is on O&A pretty much every day.

most of these comics want to promote weekend gigs and the days they promote are Thursdays and Fridays.

Probably more media/listeners on the other shows they do now and those people/shows do more days than Stern. :dontknow:

Makes sense. Monday-Wednesday is pretty useless for gig promotion.

The last few years the guest segments have changed
It has become more of a psychological interview than funny people riffing

Plus younger listeners on those shows. The only new listeners Wiggy attracts are retirees at this point.

    That is not it
These comedians go on every shit yuck yuck radio show they can get on
They are not turning down Stern

The show is not geared for that type of comedian anymore
Remember when Louie CK was on? It was a psychological interview & even LCK said "I hope I did OK, it really was not that funny of an appearance"

he's right. all those guys still do small market morning zoo radio to promote their shows. there's no way they're turning down stern......they're just not welcome there anymore.

I can picture Gary pitching Colin to Stern & Stern saying "what new angle can we talk to him about?' & then passing on him
When he did the B'way show with Seinfeld producing, that was an angle

The show was & always will be about what interest "Howard" & he is not interested in a touring comics road stories anymore

Some good reality in in here, yeah, these guys would promote on an Al-Queda podcast, sorry to burst the "O&A" bubble that these guys genuinely prefer their show, but Stern just doesn't run that type of show anymore. He's evolved beyond comedy.

They might prefer O&A, that is not the point
Even Norton admitted last week that Stern is the bigger show & he accepts that (why he can but some on here cannot is part of the charm here)
Colin & others can call into O&A anytime they want.
Howard won't take a call from Colin to promote The Chuckles Comedy Club in Des Moines, O&A will

As mentioned previously in this thread, Stern wants to psychoanalyze his guests for his interviews, however that can only be done once, as he would just be repeating himself if he brought them in again. Howard, by his own admissions, does not have well developed social skills (why he's been in therapy more than half his life) and shooting the shit with people does not come naturally to him as it does with O&A. He's simply very good at breaking people down and getting them to open up. Most of the top comics (think of everyone Colin had on Tough Crowd) go to the Comedy Cellar in New York and talk about hanging out at it's upstairs bar and busting each others balls relentlessly, as they say most of their funniest moments don't even happen on stage. O&A provides the exact same time of forum for that where they're comfortable and it's also the funniest thing to hear for listeners, as seen in this classic legendary story:

the problem is Howard can't really handle these guys on his own, unless it's just a psychoanalysis shrink session which can't really be done more than once. without a Jackie or an Artie to help the flow and in studio atmosphere I don't think it works very well.

Also with Artie gone, there is less to tie the comedians into Stern
Artie used to help them fit into THSS better
