The feathers in and around your asshole can judge better than Howard.

it really is too soon to tell -- he predictably is getting clobbered in sweeps -- whether the old-fogey contingent returns after DWTS is still up in the air

Unless the ratings change substantially, I don't know why they would. I can't believe they moved the show to the East Coast only to have it go down in the ratings.

NBC blew it big time...Thought people would tune into AGT just to see what Howard says.... thought Howard would be the second coming of Simon Cowell...

    Fail...Fail....Fail....

Bringing back Howard Stern would be ratings suicide.

Howard won't be back next year, but he will spin it that AGT took up too much of his time.

I was just thinking the same thing (I sound like Robin). They won't have him back, and he'll try to convince us it was because it was too time-consuming and that his commitment is only to the HSS. He is already teeing up that line of thinking.

I think a lot of people are misguided about what's going on here with Howard and AGT. You have to ask yourself how popular AGT was before Howard. You then have to understand what has happened since they moved the debut up a few weeks.

See, I used to play softball on a team that was average. We eventually got a player on our team who used to play baseball in college. He was really good and helped us become a very good team. Because we got better and actually won the championship we moved up a division. We were good when playing in the old division and then were just "OK" when we moved up.

That's how I look at Howard being on AGT right now with the ratings. The TRUE test will be when he goes up against the summer competition. If AGT's ratings drop with a direct comparison to last years on a specific time and against the same competition, then Howard is a failure. Hell if they stay the same it's a failure.

Till then, he is doing just fine. I will bash Howard when he deserves it. Right now he doesn't in my opinion.

...classic howard stern, say one thing and do another.
...howard complained that during that touching moment with a ghetto child "the editing made it look like nick went to him first"
    ...this
    ...this

    ...and that.

The entire basis of NBC paying what they paid Howard was to move out of going up against reruns and to face actual competition to be a "legitimate" show, it failed. There is no reason to pay Howard what they pay him if they will do the same ratings wise against zero competition in the dead summer period as they did with budget talking head like Peirs, Hasselhoff, or Brandy.

But is it worth it to move up a couple of ratings points during the summer?

You raise an interesting point. Objectively speaking, Marbles may or may not have been the true KOAM for 20+- years, but at least he had legitimacy, even/especially outsider legitimacy.

Now, having read your comment, my mind flashed on Howie sitting lonely and awkwardly in a booth at a third rate ComicCon in the Milwaukee suburbs or on CMT's Hollywood Squares-ripoff "Bakersfield HayBales". And it made me laugh.

It probably would have worked out something like that if he hadn't gotten FU money from Sirius. Or SiriusXM. I can never remember; is it one company or two?
