I don't think I have ever seen this asked. This question is not about gun control or politics. It's just a simple question asking why you own a gun.

Why do you own a gun?

Please guys i know its impossible but lets leave politics out of it. Lets just answer the question as to why you own you a firearm. Thanks.

Have you ever had to use it?

I have seen first hand the aftermath of a family member that had to use a firearm against an intruder. I saw the bullet riddled den. So, i do understand the concept of home protection.

Hunting as well as protection. Hopefully I'll never have to use it for the latter purpose.

Home and self protection and recreational target shooting. I had to take the shotgun out one night, caught two crackheads in my yard trying to break in my car. I shucked it and they hauled ass and were later caught.

Nope. Just nice to know it's there if someone breaks in. One each in the night stands, wife's work desk, my work desk, and basement, so whereever we are we can retreat to where a weapon is.

I have guns for hunting. I also have guns that are a hell of a lot of fun to shoot at targets. Some of my guns are for home defense but I Hope I never have to use one for that.
I Just enjoy going out with my dad or son and setting up card board targets and wasting a bunch of ammo on them. It's fun Just to do that.
It may be weird but I find a certain type of beauty in a well made firearm. I know It's not for everyone. I do respect others decisions to not own them though.

Guns are useful tools. They can have an appeal like a fine automobile. They are not a bad place to park equity. Most, not all, do not depreciate much.
Target and competitive shooting are extremely fun and good family activities. Sporting clays are a recent passion of mine.
I do not hunt although I own what can be considered hunting rifles. I have never pointed a weapon at nor threatened another person with one.

This for home defense and target shooting

And this for home defense / camping / on the road.

This is by far my favorite for targets. Accurate with a cheap red dot, light, easy to shoot. No nonsense if the SHTF

If your a gun person you will find that these breed in your safe. Cheap, fun to shoot, multitude of accessories.

They do hold value well, and even appreciate if you buy them right. I have a Yugo SKS in good shape I got for $175. A 9mm Makarov CZ that was about $75. The new guns may lose a little at first, but my PT92 that cost me $400 is probably worth that today I'd say.

The SKS has been on my shortlist for awhile. All the dealers have now in my area are the beat to shit Vietnam War era Chinese versions.
The good Eastern Euro ones seem to be fetching $500+ whenever I researched them in the past.

Have a .22 semi-auto rifle, a 20 gauge bolt action (bought it off my grandfather so it is 60-70yrs old) and a .30/.30 lever action from when I used to hunt in my teens. Haven't been shooting or hunting in years though.

The best offense is a good defense.
The best defense is a good offense.

All of that type of stuff etc etc.

...*and*.....I am trying to compensate for my undersized penis.

    Why wouldn't someone have/own a gun/weapon?
They are just one more tool to have at the ready in the toolbox...should something need fixing and/or adjusting.

That old saying...better to have one and not need one..rather than needing one and not having one.

In 1981 there was a very evil person looking for me and once I was safe I just had to get a gun so I could feel safe. Shooting it for the first time was freaky. I've thought about using it twice.

Once was I was at a hotel room at 2:00 am and somebody was trying their hardest to rip the door off its hinges, banging on it, screaming at me to open up. I had my gun out and called the cops. They finally went away.
The second time some black man was chasing me around a bus stop at 5:30 am. He tried to lure me to his car and was pissed that I wasn't cooperating. The last thing I heard was Come here and then the bus came thank god. I called the cops then too

Damn, now i understand. Wow. Those large urban areas leave a lot to be desired. I wouldn’t give you 2 cents for one.
