NYPD officer shot in Harlem Last Updated Oct 20, 2015 10:37 PM EDT NEW YORK -- A New York police officer was rushed to the hospital after being shot in Harlem on Tuesday night, CBS New York reported. The shooting happened around 9 p.m. near the Robert Wagner Houses at East 120th Street near FDR Drive. Law enforcement sources told CBS New York police were investigating a report of shots fired when a foot chase ensued. The sources told the station a male police officer was shot in the head and rushed to Harlem Hospital Center in critical condition. At least one person is in custody, CBS New York reported. A gun was recovered at the scene of the shooting, police sources said. The NYPD's 73rd Precinct identified the officer shot as being from the NYPD Housing Police Service Area 5 Anti-Crime Unit. Police activity closed the FDR Drive in both directions between 120th and 125th streets. Authorities warned drivers to expect extensive delays and seek alternative routes if possible.
